Mine was a cow, so the horns are a bit lighter than a bull. She measured at 37.5" long (both) X 5.5" basal circumfrence. I've seen some bigger ones, but I've seen a bunch of smaller ones killed too. Overall, I was very pleased with mine, both as a trophy and because, unlike so many I've heard about, it was a true hunt rather than a shoot. Bulls are often heavier, but usually a bit shorter. Though here lately I've seen several 38"+ bulls with 8"+ bases. One that size is a true monster. While I was hunting another fellow killed a 41" cow with bases about the same as mine. That was a pretty impressive animal. Most folks consider anything over 34-35" to a good trophy, and anything over 38" is really great. Of course I'm talking about typicals here. As you can see there are some non-typicals too. My wife's measured about 19" long, but with 11" bases or something like that. It was a cow too, but the biggest oryx I've every handled. She was flat huge! You can see how she compares to mine. The cow my wife killed was with a real nice 34"ish bull and she was at least 6" taller than he was at the shoulder.
I am quite fond of the meat. When properly cared for, it is quite tender and very mild. The texture is somewhat different, so I don't know really what to liken it to. One thing is very important though - when butchering these critters be sure to get every bit of fat and sinew off the meat. It's far tougher than what you see on NA game, and it contributes negatively to the taste just the same. I have found the round steaks to be slightly more tender than the backstraps, which is the reverse of NA game.
I live just across the mountain from WSMR. It's about a 45 minute drive to the main gate of the Small Missile Range where we hunted these. Add about 10 more to the main post at WSMR.
