    In 1944, my next younger brother and I caught polio..Only I survived.  He was diagnosed with polio on Sunday afternoon, dead by early Monday morning.

Yes, they were thoroughly vetted and most were a benefit to America bringing skills.   Not only that, but they had to be "sponsored" by somebody who shall support them until they are earning for themselves.  Then they were required to go to c;lasses, to 'learn to be an American'..with basic constitutional and English knowledge .
