Single Six replacement grips
« on: March 11, 2004, 06:30:52 AM »
Anybody have any recommendations for replacement grips for a single six. I'm looking for something a little more hand filling, I'm just not comfortable with my little finger dangling at the bottom of the factory grip. Please include any web sites where I might be able to look at the grips you recommend. Thanks.

Without changing grip frames or getting oversizd grips, all panels you fit to it will still be the same basic profile.    here's some links to some custom grip makers...

There's also usually some listed on eBay.  Another option would to just try making a set of your own.  wood is avail. at these sites.

Just in case you did'nt know any blackhawk grips should fit youe single six.
also if the fellow with the Jay scott grips would e-mail me I may have a set of ruger wood to trade for them. they may be the newer "redwood" color grips or the older darker brown I have to look to see which I have let me know if it makes a difference to you.
My e-mail is jmlv@aol.com

Deaf Smith,
Just FYI, grips on Old Models of the Blackhawk and Single Six are NOT interchangable.  I must assume that this is a New Model change.

The old model three screw blackhawk with the XR3 RED grip frame will interchange with the new .22 SS. I am not sure exactly when this frame was first used but my .41 was made in '66 and it is wearing a set of ivory grips that I swaped from my new model Single Six. Fit is perfect.

Guys who like pretty wood will probably think this is sacrilege, but I've had a set of Pachmayr presentation grips on my Blackhawk .41 mag for years. They won't win a beauty contest, but they sure do fill my hand just right without putting my thumb too far back from the hammer. In my experience, the grips that fit the standard Blackhawk (not the Super Blackhawk) will also fit the Single Six.

Pachmayr grips the 41 magnum and the single-six

I have foun too that any grip that fits a regular new model blackhawk will fit a new model single si except for the new ones just putout by Ruger with smaller grips(shorter)
I too have pachmayrs on my custom 41 magnum as its a beast to shoot otherwise. I hope to get a set of hogue monogrips(rubber) on it when I find them(I have a set around here somewhere). I think they look better than the pachmayr on the blackhawk and help cusion recoil just as well, we will see. If I can buy a set of oversized walnut I may try them as they seem to work on my 5.5 44 magnum Blackhawk, we will see. For no thats how it stands.

Twodollarpistol,
My Old Model Blackhawk is .45, made in 1971 (only made for two years).  My SS Old Model was made 1959.  Maybe that's why the grips are different.
