Saturday...a puzzle and a gift..
« on: May 29, 2022, 03:25:32 PM »
Satturday..  I went to Walmart.. when I came out I got in my car and backed out, and I just started to pull away, when I noticed some pieces of paper, fluttering in a small gathering on the pavement.

So I stopped my Jeepjust before I passed over them..getting out and going around front, I discovered a small collection of currency, with a grocery list Igathered it all up, and started searching the row of cars from there on out, to see if somebody was loading groceries in their car.

Nope, none to be found!  Meanwhile I had other errands to run..so I came back half an hour later, trying to catch somebody searching..

I counted the bills..$118all tolled, along with the griocery list..  So I went in to the service desk, to see if anyone had reported the loss.
No reports, and for some reason the gal behind the desk seemed a bit "iffy"..saying nobody has ever bnrought such a request to her...or maybe it was just me.
All I could think is somebody may have NEEDED this... So I left name & number, and told them if somebody does report..have them call me, and if they will tell me a couple items on their shopping list..the find is theirs..

My nephew told me there is a website for that town, called something like "neighbor to neighbor".. I may try that !

So, that afternoon, I happened by a favorite LGS...  I asked the owner if he had any 'old 22 rifles', since I enjoy reconditioning/refurbishing them.  I buy new guns and ammo there regularly.
At first, he said he didn't have any..then, wrinkling his brow he sad, "yes I have one."

Back to the rear rack..anld he brings out a JC Higgins model 31, semi auto.  He tells me it isn't running very wel, but he figures I can handle that.
Naturally next question.."how much", since I usually limit myself to $100 for a 'project' rifle..
#
He says..." It's yours if you want it !'  Didn't take me long !  JC Higgins is a "store brand" for Sears.

This model was made by High Standard...and is a no serial # model..Here's a photo from the web..mine needs work.
Anyway..a sprayout with Breakfree* cleaner, let dry, then Breakfree* lube, take it to my indoor target..3 shots functions well, 3 more functions flawlessly..
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

My wife and her mother found $40 in walmart a few years ago and went to the service desk and reported it.
the girl insisted that they tell her how much but Nancy wouldn't tell her and left her phone number.
Nobody ever called.

Wow, nobody has ever offered me a free gun, that was a nice gesture of the LGS man.
