Baloney (bologna) salad
« on: November 17, 2021, 12:17:56 PM »
After some years, I've decided
to make some of this again
I've always made it by what's the
old traditional way for me
Finely minced baloney
Mayonnaise or salad dressing
Pickle relish
Boiled eggs
Minced onion
Mustard
Salt
Pepper

Does anyone have a different
recipe that I could try for a
half a batch?
I figured half my old way and
half a new and different way

Thanks ahead of time

Sounds good, I'll hav eto try it !  Sounds a lot like the stuff we buy in stores that is listed as "ham salad".  If not the same, I but it tastes about the same..

I grind it not as fine as deviled ham
or potted meat, but a little more
coarse than grits

It's getting to be my cooking experimental
time of year,  and I didn't know if anybody
else made a mess such as this, or if it
was just a regional thing

Mainly wondering if anyone knew any
alternate recipes

No,  it's for me,  between two pieces of bread
usually toast. A couple of pieces of sliced tomato
maybe a piece of cheese/processed cheese food.
Pickle on the side

Ranger, I’ve been eating the identical recipe, except, I don’t put mustard in it.
I make the sandwich and then spray a little Pam on my griddle and toast it that way.

I like it better than ham or chicken salad.

And, they’re good cold too.:)

Edited to add: I have a small food processor to chop things.  It only holds about 2 cups.

sorry but i wouldnt feed baloney to my dog. Only baloney that comes in this house is while im at camp in deer season the wife buys ring boloney and eats it while im gone. She makes sure its out of the fridge by the time i get home. Im not a mystery meat eater. No hotdogs for me either. Only mystery meat i will eat is fried spam but honestly i havent had that in years either. Im fussy enough that i even make my own breakfast sausage and bratts from pork but. What really turned me off on it was in grade school they showed us a movie on how it is made. NO THANKS. That said i do love pork. id rather a pork roast then a beef or venison roast.

I don't mind eating baloney or hot dogs, so ong as they are a reputable brand.  Why?  ...Simply because I don't eat a great deal of meat, so if it is made of trimmings etc., by the amount I eat, there should be no problems.

Normally, i 'eat to live", more than I "live to eat"!  I would as soon have a tube steak as a T.bone or strip steak..

No sushi beef for me..no sushi either, for that matter !  ..All meat must be cooked..

I occasionally will eat a baloney sandwich, but I know that sandwich is far from being a healthy one.

The old saying that baloney, and hotdogs are everything that hits the kill floor is true.

It's a "mashed mess" of kidneys, hearts, livers, fat, and otherwise unusable trimmings that are all mashed up, and blended with seasonings, and preservatives that produce everything from heart attacks to cancer.
Hotdogs are no better.

Its the meat version of margarine.

im like you. God gave man fire for a reason to COOK meat. I like my steak well done. I hear many saying a well done steak is a tough steak. A tough steak is a poor piece of meat to begin with and made tougher by someone that doesnt know how to cook a steak. I can make you well done venison loin on the grill you can cut with a fork. I can put up with a light tinge of pink but my dad about makes me puke. Hes one of those who eats his taking a chance it might walk away. Same thing with his RAW DOG!! No thanks. I was cooking salmon fllets the other day and figured id try it raw to see what all the hoplah was about. I took a bite chewed it and spit it out. It tasted like, well, raw fish. NO THANKS.

All of the major brands are surprise inspected and the old tale of floor sweepings is just that, an old tale.
No reputable meat packer would chance being closed down by throwing junk into the bologna or hotdog mix.
So as you say, no problem.:)

Why not load it up, and smear a little turkey poison on it? Oops! I meant "margarine".

Years ago I had a black friend who had a BBQ truck he worked at carnivals etc.
And one time he fixed me a BBQ pig ear sandwich.
It was pretty good and was a popular item on his menu..
And I’ve eaten fried chitterlings, they were good but I wouldn’t fix them.

There's a good many that make
up deep fried pig noses

There's many things cooked all
over the world that I wouldn't eat
if it were free. JMHO- I'll just have
to stick with the things I'm used to

I like baloney, and hotdogs on the grill. But not very often. They're like any other heavily processed meat. Not healthy.

Well I put some dijon mustard in
this batch, and I think it's better
with just plain yellow mustard.
Should a put some chopped roasted
red pepper or pimientos in too

Relish, onion, boiled egg, and a little mayo in mine, but, I’m gonna try a dab of mustard next time.

FWIW-  I cooked some hotdogs on
the grill this evening and they were
pretty good with some pork n beans
as a side. They were the 76 cents
a pack kind,  but I always cook em
pretty toasty, so I couldn't taste
the hog anus or the chicken dingus.
The mustard also covers all that up

I'm sure it's been +20 years since I've had a piece of bologna and probably won't have another in my lifetime.  Not that I hate it, just no reason to eat it.  I'd take a old fashioned headcheese every day over bologna.

Hardy's around here has fried bologna sandwiches or bisquits at breakfast time.
And I've fried up a lot of them in my time.  :)
