Forging steel together..

Forging steel together..forges generations together! Here is a photo from last week, when I spent a day with my grandson, forging knives.

Among others, he had a customer order to fill...I had an old, box end combination wrench that needed help.  Fact is. one jaw of the open end was broken off, so i made that end useful by forging it into a knife.  I left some forging marks, just to show it's origins.
Leaving the 7/8" box end intact, allows me to put my pinky finger through it for more control.

I'm going up to see him again today, and we will do some more projects, since his regular job is allowing thursdays off at this time.
Photo shows the "Big Smith", kneeling beside gramps for a "selfie'..

Just trying to leave "happy tracks" !

Yes thanks.....I'm just about to set out for his house inthe next few minutes.  I may demonstrate to him how to forge a Bighorn sheep head or longhorn steer head.

Then perhaps i may make a small Puukko knife for myself ! Should be a good day !
