Author Topic: Don't do this if you are 80 or over (Read 1021 times)

I had an 18 x22' concrete slab poured to turn my patio into an "L" shape and the contractor finally came an removed his forms after 12 days which was last Saturday. I had it done because I am no longer capapable of doing it myself. I got out Sunday afternoon with a 5 gallon bucket and picked up what rubble they left. I stepped upon the new slab and managed to stub my toe which resulted in me falling flat on my face. I got up, gathered up what spilled and went on about my business. By night I was kind of stiff and sore. By Monday afternoon I was barely moving and visited my chiropractor. Lots of crunching and popping and I felt better but I am still no ball of fire this morning. I certainly don't bounce nearly as well as I did even 10 years ago.

Tripped over a wheel stop in a parking lot and got banged up. Put a bandaid on and when I pulled it off, skin came with it. That made for a bigger wound; everything I did seemed to make a bigger wound. Finally ended up in nurse care to be rebandaged. That was BP (before pandemic). Now I try to be more careful too.

I hate wheel stops.
Did that at a Walmart right in front of main entrance. Skinned knee and heel of my right hand.
Liquid bandaid.

I am two months into my eighty-fifth trip around the sun and still pretty active. That apparently does not include falling on hard stuff anymore.

The ground is much harder today than it was when we were 11 and we don't bounce any more. I am on my 87 trip and it I make to December as merle said I will be on my 88 trip. Not quite as good looking as I was when I was 20 and in my dress blues. I don't chase the girls anymore as they can out run me and what would I do if I caught one? I think I will go out on the front porch and sit in the rocking chair

Well, your both still mobil, and you both have your mind, with almost a century of living experience.

I guess I'm just a kid at almost 72. I've seen a lot more than most, any I'm still mobil.

Wow, I would be very careful if I were you. I don't have any implants of any kind and just rolled over and got back up after my fall. I did roll onto the grass and when I went inside my wife immediately wanted to know how I got grass all over my back. I told her and endured the lecture I got.

Wives in their protection of us usually give us a lecture like you are too old to do this or that you need to be real careful. But then turn around and say you need to get that job done I ask you to do a week ago.

Last year Linda decided I was too old to own and use a ladder, so she gave mine to a neighbor. Ast month she wanted led lights on the ceiling of our patio cover.
Told me to go buy myself a new ladder.
Go figure.

I have been getting the "you are too old to climb a ladder" speech for several years now and not just from my wife. It has worked it's way down to my two oldest great grand daughters. Trouble is I am the only one that knows what to do when up on the ladder. I still have my ladders but to be truthful about the matter I really don't like to climb one anymore. It not from fear of falling but because it makes my get-along ache.

I Rest my case as they say in court. I did go up on top of the house to fix a small leak but then began to wonder if I could get down

Wheel blocks have brought on a lot of law suites. Some places have taken them out and putting in a standard pipe steel rail painted red.

We did that at church, but we put in the flexible posts. Since I should have seen the wheel stop, I didn't sue although some suggested it. That's not my way.

Ladders can really get you hurt. I fell off one and was down for 30 days.

I've noticed I get scratched really easily.
Even through clothing however that happens.
I did that a couple of days ago. Had
dried blood on my leg and a scratch,
but no hole or tear in my clothes however
that's possible

I noticed in the hard cold last
year my knuckles were cracking
open and bleeding. First cold this
year I thought I got a sticker down
my boot and when I got it off and
my sock off I saw the skin between
2 toes had cracked and bled

About 6"X7"X48" and usually pinned to the asphalt with rebar. Kind of a short-portable concrete piece of curb.

Saw a woman in her late 40’s who tripped over a 2x4 and her husband was trying to stand her up. I told him not to move her and call 911 as her femur was broken. I could tell easily because a leg does not bend like that.

I don't take blood thinners and have had the bruising thing for many years. It's just something I live with.

Mine was a low dose aspirin I was told to take.
I got off it, kept an eye on my blood pressure, and almost all the bruising quit appearing.
You've got over 10 years on ms though, so I'm sure that's a factor.

The earth is older and more compacted than it was when we were young. A natural occurrence.

I fell at the chicken pen yesterday, and am sore in several places from it. Even chicken pens are harder. Not quite 80 yet, but only two years from it.
