What’s the purpose of the Pot Bellied Stove ?

We have a political forum above it. And a news forum below it. So why fill up the pot bellied stove with politics & news?

This forum I thought was for discussion about topics that had no other forum.

In days gone by, people would meet a a general store.  In winter, they had a pot belled stove to gather around and stay warm.  Men would sit around the stove and talk politics, weather, or whatever they wanted to.  Sometimes they even played checkers, chess, or cards.  It was the local meeting place for people who lived in rural areas.  These general stores sold everything from groceries to saddles.  So, someone always needed something to buy and would go to these local stores, thus leading to discussions about various topics. 

The only other meeting place in common with the general stores was church on Sunday, and usually shopping on Saturday's.

They also missed passing around the chewing Tobacco.

I never missed the chewing tobacco, or the snuff. Some of those nasty old farts would spit in the floor.
When I was a kid, there were city ordinances against spitting on the sidewalks. Nuthin like steppin in 4 inch wide blob of tobacco spit while walking into the store.

   You think that is disgusting, Dee?   How about what the residents of San Francisco, LA, Detroit and most major blue cities must occasionally step in.. with al their homeless.

   Yes, There are such other forums, but sometimes they overlap,,since we are multi-dimensional people, unlike the lefties..who are all politics.

     You have probably noted that sometimes a post will be made..then replies wander, just like this post of yours had done to  certain extent.

  That doesn't bother me much though, I can be completely eclectic with what I participate in.

   One can happily enjoy eating a fish,  while throwing out the bones !

Likewise I don't really care what the purpose of the pot bellied stove is. I always took it as a place to talk about any subject that came to mind.
