Leather VS Nylon.
« on: March 07, 2021, 11:03:05 AM »
Holsters. Which one do you think is less abrasive on a guns finish? I have a lot of leathers made by El Paso saddlery. They make a very fine product. They line them with some kind a soft leather. I haven't had any wear
problems with those, but they are very pricey.

If ti'm going to carry a gun on my hip it's going to be in a leather holster. If carrying one in a vehicle nylon is the ticket. I frequently carry one in my jeep in a nylon holster that pretty well covers the gun and I stick it between the driver's seat and console where it is right at hand.

Yeah, I prefer the leather also. Especially the molded type.

I'm going with kydex.

Leather for a revolver and plastic for a semiauto, I guess Kydex is the name of the stuff I use.

Leather all the way.  Some nylon holsters, of the "economic" kind, are made with plastic belt bands and parts that will break or embrittle.

Some holster makers utilize kydex and leather like the crossbreed holsters.  I do like leather holsters the best.

"Plastic for a semi-auto" is OK as long as it's a plastic semi-auto. None of my1911s will ever feel the touch of a kydex holster. At this time I only own three plastic fantastic, not so fantastic when compared to a 1911, semi-autos and non of them have even been in a kydex holster. They are what I stick in a nylon holster for jeep and suv carry. I'm not saying I will never own a kydex holster but I have managed to survive without one up to this point.

I make my own holsters, and they are all leather.

I've been trying to find a cheap nylon shoulder holster for Patty's 22 cal Berretta mod 21. I ordered a cabellas catalogue but it will be a month before I get it. She wears nothing with pockets so it has to stay in her purse. Any ideas??CHARLIE.  ;D ;D

I bought several through Sportsmen's Guide that were made by Montezuma Holster, a S. African company, for a Walther PPK and a 1911.  They are fine leather holsters and I am impressed.  So, I went to Charley's Surplus this morning and bought several styles for my Ruger SP101 and Blackhawk as they are on sale now.

I'm a leather guy pretty much all the way. I needed a holster for my Canick 9mm, so one time we were traveling and I stopped into a pawn shop in North Platte nebraska and was looking around and saw a nice leather semi auto molded leather holster, I asked the guy if I could bring my pistol In and try it out, he said sure. I tried it and it fit as though it was made for it, took it out the door for 10 dollars
