Veteran's quiz..
« on: February 22, 2021, 12:30:15 PM »
  For those who served in Europe;

  Have you seen the I G Farben building in Frankfort?  Many troops though not stationed in Frankfort saw some of the city, since the Rhein Main airport was at Frankfort.
  I G Farben was a chemical company  teamed with Bayer (aspirin inventor)..who had a hand in producing Zyklon B..the stuff used to gas folks in the concentration camps.

  The IG Farben building was impressive, since it was the largest office building in the world...until the Pentagon was constructed.

The only time I've been to Europe was for vacation.  Flew into Frankfort and drove to Rotterdam.  Then took trains everywhere.

I flew out of the Rhein Main airport  a couple of times when we had a military base there. They closed it down in 2005.I didn't get a chance to see Frankfort. Just in and out. Plane to Train! Last time I saw Germany was when we flew out at the Rhein Main airport and landed in Savannah Ga.We thought our next base would be in Havana Cuba, but Kennedy and Khrushchev came to an agreement and we  settled down at Ft. Benning, and waited for another conflict In a place called Vietnam.

  I know what you mean, NW.  I would have liked to see England and Scotland, however as close as I got was to see the White cliffs of Dover.. where we picked up a pilot to guide the ship through the channel.

BTW;
  For veterans...Recently, I found that the Dollar General stores have decent discounts for veterans, at least one Tuesday each month..at least thatvis true wiyhnthe local one.

  Do you have a BIG LOTS store near you?  seldom mentioned, unless you ask..but veteran's discount is 11%  !

  i only found out when an alert clerk spotted my evidence on my cap !

My favorite, Lowe's where veterans get 10 percent year round. Not like home depot.

I like Lowe's as they give me and family members a 10 percent discount plus I have a no tax farm use which saves me the tax on the product at the Lowe's i shop at is 8.75 so that is a good savings. The town where I live the tax rate is 10 percent so that is a good saving on farm use products. Most places that I shop at that give a vet discount you have to register and show your military Id

Nothing wrong with Lowe's veteran discount, but I have shunned them so far, because I don't like the idea of having to "register" with Lowes Inc, to get the discount.
   I have my Vet ID card nd our state license prints "veteran" on our license. once we have shown them our DD214.

  Shoot!  Our local Dollar general has some veteran discount days, and I don't have to jump through hoops to get it !

  Our local "Big Lots" stores have a veteran's discount. but I did register with them years ago, or I likely wouldn't do so
 now.
      Bad enough, how far our personal business and information is shared, just by clicking onto the web.

   Guess I am just an old mule !
