National Guard to keep 5,000 troops in DC until March
Nation's original inauguration date has authorities concerned about the return of protestors
By Lucas Y. Tomlinson | Fox News

Democrats using military occupation of DC as political weapon
The National Guard says 5,000 troops will remain in the nation’s capital through mid-March, Fox News has learned.

"As we continue to work to meet the final post-inauguration requirements, the National Guard has been requested to continue supporting federal law enforcement agencies with 7,000 members and will draw down to 5,000 through mid-March," the Guard said in a statement.

"We are providing assistance such as security, communications, medical evacuation, logistics, and safety support to state, district and federal agencies."

The National Guard was in the process of meeting with various federal agencies to "determine their requirements" for troops to stay beyond January, an official had told Fox News earlier Friday.

Around 25,000 Guardsmen deployed to Washington D.C., ahead of President Biden's inauguration after the deadly Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol where authorities were badly outnumbered by pro-Trump supporters.

National Guard troops undergo extra vetting ahead of Inauguration DayVideo
The ceremony went off with only a few minor arrests. About a dozen Guard troops were removed from their posts after being vetted by the FBI, including two who made extremist statements about the event.

In a statement Thursday, the National Guard said about 7,000 troops would remain in Washington through the "end of the month." But there is concern among some city and federal authorities that protesters might return to Washington in early March on the original presidential inauguration date, March 4.

Six southern states left the union after Abraham Lincoln was elected in November and before his inauguration in March, a period known as "Secession Winter."

The 20th Amendment moved the inauguration to its present Jan. 20 date. Franklin D. Roosevelt was the first president sworn into office on that date when he began his second term in 1937.

Before the ratification of the 20th Amendment in 1933, the new president was not sworn until the March following the election

Lawmakers from both political parties were fuming this week after learning that troops were forced to take rest breaks outside the Capitol. Images circulated online showing Guardsmen camped in a cold garage, which prompted bipartisan calls for an investigation.

In a Banana Republic you always need troops to protect "El Jefe". Look for them to stay much longer than March.

Just the Demonrats, trying to dramatize and be ready to manufacture a new "crisis" whenever one is needed.

It looks like troops are needed far more, in places like Portland, Seattle, Baltimore, St Louis & Detroit, than they are needed in DC !

Yep, that is the way it works, especially in country where elections have been rigged. Which in all banana republics the elections are rigged.  I agree I think the NG will be there for the duration.

Why don't they put them up in Hotels then? That parking garage looks like a dungeon. Convicts have it better than that. The Navy has thousands of stored bunk beds and lockers after closing Orlando basic training.
At least that way they could make it look like a Barracks. Those troops are being treated like sh*t by the Democrats.

I think it probably has something to do with democrats hating the military in general. Every democrat in power has cut funding to our military. The democrats only find the military important when they themselves want protected.  Troops on our borders is a big no-no, but troops in DC when an un-elected democrat is living in the White House is okay.  the NG is only there to serve a purpose for JB. Him and his minions could care less where they have to sleep.

I don't think the third amendment apples to Americans who would voluntarily want to help House and feed our troops.

The Third Amendment was passed as part of the Bill of Rights. This amendment essentially states that if the United States is not at war, then it can't make people house soldiers. If the United States is at war, it can only make people house soldiers in the way that the government has already established.

MORE THAN 50% of all NG troops have combat experience.

I don't know the actual numbers, but the National Guard has been utilized more in the last 19 years, than ever before.  I think the high percentage is because this is the first warfare (excluding Desert Storm) that we have been involve with in over a century, where the draft was not utilized, so they had to pull troops from somewhere.

Has anyone stopped to consider... perhaps the thousands of troops in DC, is a planned, permanent fixture!

They may need them, especially considering the new restrictions and constitution smashing efforts being put forth by  the administration.

Is this the start of a 'police state' ?

As of last week, the remaining 5000 NG Troops in DC were to be a all volunteer force. If left wing Governors are still having to order troops to DC, then that plan is not working well.

Is it voluntary for the troops themselves, or the governors who send them?

Probably a rhetorical question but yah, the NG Troops were to volunteer for Pelosi’s DC praetorian guard.

If I was standing outside today, on some deserted snow covered street corner, I would have 2nd thoughts as to the mission and my command.

Well, troops go where troops are sent, and they do what they are told to do.

Their deployment is both a show of force, and a show of fear I think. I also believe that their show of force will increase, and their fear, will decrease as their confidence increases.

The NG was utilized a great deal during WW2, under the US Army. The Bataan death march was composed of mostly the NM National Guard. It's recognized by a long march every few years. Very few of the original survivors are still alive.  Who have to slowly ride along in trucks. We saw it once, there were probably only 600 people in attendance in the actual march. Lots of bystanders, from all over the country.

Wow... national guard... What war or combat zone have they been in? Besides shooting unarmed liberal college kids...

Sorry Mule, but I ha e to call you on this one, but for a different reason.  Here is why...

" Besides shooting unarmed liberal college kids..."

I suspect you are talking about the notorious case of Kent State (Ohio)..  I in no way saw those "college kids" as unfortunate innocents!
First off, the very term "college kids"... if they are so much "kids', why are they taking up space in an institute of 'higher learning'?

I distinctly remember that incident.  I recall a fellow complaining about the NG, saying those "kids" only rushed the guard because they were angry, and one even tried to put a flower stem down the barrel of a soldier's rifle.

That was on that very weekend, and all information was not in, so I had just one question for that fellow, which was...  Were they told to HALT...and did they?
If they were told to stop and didn't..they brought it upon themselves.

I was relatively fresh out of the Army at that time, and working as parts manager, at a local IH/New Holland dealership.  We were a very busy agency, so I occasionally had help with stocking etc.
The young man who helped me was attending Kent State at the time, but  was home, helping me the very weekend that incident took place, so I asked him.. "Tom, why aren't you down there in the crowd that is gathering?"
Tom replied that the announcement was made at Kent State, that students may wish to go home, or at least stay out of any demonstrations that weekend.  So he came home, and earned some money instead..

BTW: Tom went on to serve a couple terms in the US Congress.  I liked his conservative thought patterns, so I helped him to run for office.. Just door-to-door stuff..but it helped to get him elected..

Interesting. What was Tom's last name I'd like to look him up via his Congressional voting records. I t would be an interesting comparison to today.

I was wrong about the national guards involvement in combat and admitted that. I never took a side here on that shooting. Sorry IG, but You can’t call me on what I have not done even if You see it that way.
