The 25 Best Bourbons of the 21st Century
« on: December 16, 2020, 01:38:59 PM »
https://robbreport.com/food-drink/spirits/best-bourbons-21st-century-2817790/

I thought I would take a look-see and expected to find some going for a few hundred bucks.
When whiskey bottles are selling for five figures, THAT makes one realize just how totally distanced from the average U.S. citizen the libs on the coasts truly are.
The write up on one whiskey used the term "fly over" country for whiskey made outside the norm.

I have seen some of the normal two-digit priced ones in liquor stores but the extreme stuff surprised even me.
If you click on the " buy now" button, you will find that the stores selling are separated as a total foo-foo store selling the radical stuff and simple online store sells the stuff at normal prices.
There is one bottle for 94 dollars I would consider as its contents make it different from the norm (It has wheat which makes whiskey more mild); those with the 100 proof and higher do not appeal to me even if they were low priced as decades ago I decided high alcohol content in booze did not make it better.

When I get feeling uppity I have some 4 Rose's on the rocks,  otherwise it is Evan Williams.

I know that nobody here like flavored bourbon, but I like Jim Beam Vanilla either straight, or in a zero coke. I know, its only 70 proof, and it ain't macho, but I like it.

I'll give it a try, but I usually like my whiskey to taste like whiskey.

I drank Gentleman Jack for years, but never enough to matter. The JBV is occasional, but I keep a 5th in the pantry if I get the urge for a drink.

My hunting buddies and circle of friends here in RI are all Bourbon drinkers, and to be honest its not a taste I've acquired. They included me in a group text alert whenever there's a good price on bourbon at the class 6. I finally picked up a bottle of Elijah Craig to have on hand when folks come over, but that's the only time it gets opened.

Now if we get to talk about top shelf spiced rum, that's another story; however, 70 proof is plenty for me.

Well I don't like the feeling of intoxication, but I've always liked the taste Vanilla adds to some things. The Vanilla in Jim beam is actually a liquor and it smooths the bourbon way out.

I'm a bourbon drinker and I must say, most of the hype about bourbon is just that.  There are plenty of $30 bottles that will beat $100 bottles in blind tests.  Above $100 and you are just purchasing a feather for your  cap hoping all to see.  A friend of mine did a bourbon party last winter with mostly guys and women who did not really drink bourbon.  Put it this way, they had a whole table full of mixer ingredients and recipes...   One guy brought a bottle of Blanton's and everyone raved and said it was by far the best, blah, blah, blah.... That is until we did blind testing.  I got 3rd out of 5 tasted overall. Some had it lower, some higher, but nobody had it as no. 1.

If you like vanilla, a good dark rum aged 5+3 years in a bourbon cask gives a nice smooth flavor, hint of sweet, low on the ABV. Class 6 had a nice 5+3 for $15, my bourbon drinking friends were like, are you sure this is rum? I don't like the feeling either, but I like the warmth and flavors of a good spiced rum, especially with heavy cream in a good cup of coffee during the holidays.

If you don't like the feeling, you must be doing it wrong!!!

As I found out, deja vu after fifty years, when my neighbor starrted bringing over bottles of hard stuff, if you do not drink x amount a year for so for x years, that nasty feeling comes on much, much quicker and with less amount of liquor.

Oddly, I can still drink three to four bottles of beer , over several hours, while out and about, and not feel anything, except I want no more, but recently, at times, while sitting in this chair, I will drink one bottle , with food, and get real , real sleepy for a bit.
About the time I decide to take a nap, I fully wake up.
