How much is your time worth?

Tesla has reportedly started offering existing owners of its $49,990 Model Y compact SUV a software update that gives their vehicles quicker acceleration, reducing the time needed to reach 60 mph from 4.8 to 4.3 seconds.

Electrek reports that the $2,000 “Acceleration Boost” is showing up on their car's apps as a download for the Dual Motor AWD Long Range model. The $59,990 Model Y Performance model can make the sprint in 3.5 seconds and is equipped with additional performance equipment. Tesla also offers an Acceleration Boost upgrade for the Dual Motor AWD Long Range Model 3 sedan.

Tesla did not respond to a request from Fox News for comment, nor has it for any story since Aug. 2019.

The move comes just as Ford of Europe revealed that the electric Mustang Mach-E GT will be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.7 seconds.

The Mach-E is similar in size and price to the Model Y, starting at $60,500, but qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit that brings it down to $53,000 for most buyers. However, the Mach-E has an estimated range of 250 miles per charge, compared to the Model Y’s 291-mile rating.

Ford hasn’t released official performance figures for any of the other Mach-E trims, or U.S. market GT, but advertises that the entry-level rear-wheel-drive Select ($36,395 after credit) will be able to make the sprint to 60 mph in the mid-5-second range and provide around 230 miles of driving between charges. Meanwhile, the Dual Motor AWD Long Range Model Y can go 316 miles between charges, according to the EPA.

Deliveries of the Mach-E are scheduled to begin late this year.

you can do the same for about any car or truck with a gas motor. Buy a diablo programer for 400 bucks and if your car is newer then 2014 for the most part you need to have your computer cracked because there locked. Cost is about 500 for that. Pretty much a 15-20hp gain with a tune for 91 premium gas about 5 more if you use 93 or at least a 10hp gain even with regular. For another grand  (2k total) you could not only do that but also buy a cat back exhaust that will give you 25-30 more. The programmer will allow you to data log and send that to a custom programmer to gain even more and gives the option of adjusting for tire size and controlling your traction control, and speed limiters. Another big advantage is most cars and trucks have fly by wire throttles and the factory dumbs down the throttle response so you are easier on your drivetrain so they pay out less warrantee money for broken stuff. Difference when its turned off and basically gives the response of a throttle cable is night and day. You can in a matter of minutes go from a reg tune to a premium tune and theres even a gas mileage tune for regular. I have one on my challenger and gained power and using 91 i get enough better mpg to pay the difference in price of premium and regular. Had one in my 06 silverado and i think i gained even more with that motor. Havent put one on my last two silverados or my new ram because ive never owned them long enough to have the warrantee expire. I did ask my service manager if they would void my warrantee if i had a custom tune and he told me this. Technically yes he could. Its up to his service managers discretion but he said he never has because he about knows if he screws someone over there not coming back next time to buy a new truck from him.  My guess is the tesla deal is just a throttle response programmer. The high torque of an electric motor is probably hard on the drivetrain and they no doubt program there computer to deliver that torque gradually. If all you want is a throttle response improvements on your truck they sell a unit that plugs in line between your plug on the peddle and the lead going to the computer. its a 5 minute job and allows you to custom tune your response and it doesnt effect your computer in any way. It was a HUGE improvement on my ram hemi and my wrangler and they sell for about 300 bucks. Biggest seat of the pants improvement on about any gas powered car or truck. https://pedalcommander.com/?msclkid=76a2306e460a1dfbc6866f010837a5f8
