I need Help Please
« on: September 10, 2020, 10:07:50 AM »
You fellows with a vast amount of knowledge have always came through for me. I have looked every where and have not been able to find these nails. I have been using Grip Rite 33 degree paper taped 3 inch clip head nails for my Porter Cable frame nailer and for the life of me cannot find any.
I have been all over the net, all my local lumber yards and places like Home depot.  Lowe's, Ace hardware. My local Mc Cloys True value lumber yard has carried them but have been out for months. I really hate to have to buy a new frame nail when this one works great. I can find nails from 20 degrees to 30 but no 33. I have been told that 30 will work but I really do think so.  I am in the process of building me a new elevated box deer blind getting ready for the season planted the food plot yesterday, got a nice rain last night and this morning to start the germination process.   Thanks in advance

Why not get a strip of 30s and see if they work. One of those stores would probably give you 1 strip to try.
I suspect they might.

Housing was built with claw hammers before the advent of nailers so that's always a fall back method and a lot cheaper than a new nailer. I have no clue about where to find your preferred nails but I saw no mention of ebay and amazon in your searching so you might find them there.

First place I tried was ebay and Amazon everything but what I needed they had 2 3/8 but I have plenty of them. Using the wrong angle nail could damage the gun beyond repair don't wont to chance it. I have almost a full 50 lb box 16 if I wish to revert back to framing hammer and regular nails.

I have a paslode framing nailer taking 30 degree nails. Have boxes of 30 degree griprite nails that state on the box that they will work from 30 to 34 degrees paper tape. I’d use em myself. Listed are  paslode and porter cable along with all the others. I must say trying to edit a post is a real pia when ya can’t see what you are editing.,, Also I have used paper tape and the glued variety in my pneumatic nailers with no adverse affects...

(First place I tried was ebay and Amazon)

I was just making a suggestion as you didn't include them in your places tried list.

Deacon,

My 2 cents is try the 30 degree nails.  The difference between 30 and 34 degrees, on a paper taped item is really small without much rigidity.  The nail just has to line up under the driver which pounds it into the wood.  If it is a little off the feed slot will correct it on the way out.  I will check out my own Porter Cable nailer and see if it has anything about 30-34 degree nails.  If I have any 30 degree nails I will send you a stick to try if you want.

Well when all else fails best to read the instruction manual So today I was removing some 2 3/8 nails from the gun and looking at the small print on the side of the nail receiver and behold it says 34 degree paper clip head nails, where I came up and started using 33 degree I will never know been a number of years sense I have had this nailer out and using it. I am also told that 30 to 34 degree will work from the different nail makers so looks like I can find what I need.

Thanks to all who replied
