almost afraid to tell this one!
« on: August 22, 2020, 09:36:32 AM »
night before last we went out crop damage shooting. Shot a doe about 90 lbs and on that was a pretty good sized one. Id say in the 120 range. Dropped the small one off at the buddys that night and took the other one home. Backed up to my pole barn as usual and parked there. I allways leave the deer in the back of the truck till morning. Well I went out yesterday morning to cut it up and looked in the back of the truck and it was gone. Right away I thought someone stole it. Then I went around to the other side of the truck and the box had 3 good sized dents and hair all over the side. I got looking around and found a BIG black bear track. That bear actually jumped up into the back of my ram 4x4 and grabbed that deer and hauled it off in the woods behind the house. I saw tracks heading to the woods but absolutely no marks where he drug it. He had to have carried that deer in his mouth right out of the yard. We have been seeing a big bear around the neighborhood. Has to go over 400lbs. I complained once to the dnr about the kids in the neighborhood that's parents were scared. They did nothing. Well after getting an estimate that went 2400 bucks I called the dnr (who never answers his phone) and left a message saying that as of right now I will shoot that bear the next time I see it. The park service has had traps out about a 1/2 a mile from here trying to trap it and its just to smart. I even had my buddy whos the country sheriff take a ride out and see it in case the insurance company balked at it. My wife called them and they laughed and said theyd never heard that one and it should be on tv like that commercial out strange claims. Im none to happy about my brand new truck needing a new box side and paint!! From now on the truck will get parked in the barn. I cant even leave it out if its got blood in the box.

Black bears like coyotes, are opportunists.  If they can get food without much effort, they are "Johnny on the spot" !

Sorry scrounging varmints.
They're starting to come back
in parts of east Texas, and I
hear people here talking about
how "neat" it's going to be to have
bears and it'll be so neato to see
bears while out hunting.  I've mentioned
it to several about how they tear stuff up,
but a lot of em are the people that have
never had there property torn up by feral
hogs,  or had pets or livestock ravaged
by canines and cats

yup we have bear problems, wolf problems, and coyotes to deal with here. Shot two coyotes last night. No deer in and right at dark 30 two coyotes came along the woods line. They are laying in the field this morning. My guess is that's why there was no deer out last night. Farmer hates them and wolves (not many bear in that area) he said if a coyote shows its face to KILL IT IMEDIATELY. He said he lost three new born calves to coyotes through the years. Lost one to wolves last fall. He told me that there protected so use your own judgement like he does ;)

I presume the wolves are strictly protected there, is that correct?

yup the yuppies and peta people that live down in the citys pushed to reintroduce them up here. Sure didn't want them in there back yard! They were native up here and back in the 50s and 60s there was bountys put on them and we ridded ourselves of that problem. What we need is a few of those yuppy backpackers and hikers and campers that flood this place in the summer to get ate by one!!!! Right now youd probably get more jail time for killing a wolf up here then you would killing your wife!

They put those bounties on back
then for good reasons. People forget
really easy about the h&ll folks
went through in the old days. Losing
just a calf or two or some varmints
killing your stock dog, or varmints
messing up an acre of corn that you
nurtured and prayed over could mean
making it or not in a time when most
would be happy just to get by.
If people want to see wild varmints
and predators,  they ought to go spend
quiet time in the bush,  and quit
bulldozing the woods to throw up a
mini mansion

If things really did go to pot
in this time, and we were depending
on our gardens to help feed us,
how lenient could you afford to be
with an animal that was destroying
your hard work,  and literally taking
food off the family's table?

There's a lot of folks that never consider that

It is the "two legged" vermin that are the real problem...which excludes hunters and in particular rural farmers.

like I said the big problem are the yuppies that don't have to live with them. They are the ones that pushed to have them reintroduced here. They don't have to worry about there cattle, dogs and children playing in the back yard. They think the UP is there private playground. There is absolutely no benefit and having wolves in the woods. Like ive said I think if they could clone t rex's those yuppies would want them reintroduced up here. They kind of remind me of that commercial where the three yuppy hikers are trying to feed the blood covered wolf some been jerky.

ill give that a big amen. There out to be a bounty paid on those stupid bastards up here. They camp anywhere they can find a spot. Don't care if its private or a public beach. They dump there trash in the woods, tear up roads trying to drive there prius's where only a 4x4 should even attempt. Probably 50 a day turn around in my driveway because its a dead end road and theres signs that say so at the start of the road. Had one the other day come down the road with a 25 foot boat on a trailer that was going to turn around in my driveway. Told him to get the hell out of here. He said he needed to turn around first. I told him he has reverse back it down the road!! Who the hell is so stupid that they take a 25 foot boat on a trailer down a dead end road. Two legged vermin is way to kind of a description of them!

Yeah,  every year since I've had my place
on opening day of rifle season there's at
least one truck hauling a big travel trailer
that has to try to get turned around and
back out despite the big yellow "NO OUTLET "
sign at the head of the farm road at the
highway
