i'm planning on buying a new semi-auto .22 in the not to distant future. i'm considering the savage 64, marlin 60, marlin 795 and a norinco model that looks kinda like a military rifle and accepts marlin mags. i don't want a 10/22 and i don't really want any of the accessorie that you can get for them.i was also thinking about the reminton 597, but i don't like it's look and heard a lot of bad things about it here. i can't choose which one because they are all about $200 CDN. i think the model 60 might be my best bet because it comes with a 4X scope and has the highest capacity. any one own one of these? ilooked thru older posts but couldn't find much.

I own a Marlin 60 and a 10/22. Both are great guns. I intend to buy some aftermarket goodies for the 10/22, just for fun. The Marlin is a good buy for the money, if you are using it for hunting and plinking. Mine or my son-inlaws have never jammed, so far, and are accurate enough to hunt and have fun with. The tube feed can be a pain in the butt sometime, but you get a higher capacity than the mag fed 10/22. I wouldn't trade either gun, though I may look at buying a good bolt action later. :D  :D

Kevin,

Both the M-60 and the 10-22 are good rifles, you can spend a ton of money on the Ruger.  After spending all that money there are a lot of guns which will cost less and shoot better.  One of the M-60's in my gun safe shoots very well with ammo it likes, a little better than the 10-22 I had for years.  I bought the 10-22 in 69 and finally replaced it in 2002, it was as good as when I bought it.  The Bushnell 3x9 Airgun scope with the adjustable objective is a lot of scope for not much money, makes it easier to hit small targets at 9x vs. 4x.

I curently have 6 m 60s in my safe.I had a 10 22 but after kids I found that the 60 shoots just as well at much less cost.[traded the ruger for a 30 30].with ammo they like they can be very accurite. one of the things Ive found is that Rem golden bullets will cycle through all these 60s with no stopages and be fairly accurite in all of them. This is important when shooting with kids. with the wrong ammo Id have 4 kids at all times looking to get me to fix there guns, instead of shooting . One other thing, the scope that comes with them is a compleate waste of space.so in my opinion if your paying any extra for a scope ,save that money for an aftermarket.

I have the model 60 and a model 25N bolt action with clip.  Never had a problem with either one of them.  Use remington high velocity 36g hollow point in both...
