Old Indian wisdom.
« on: December 11, 2019, 06:11:33 AM »

“Before our white brothers came to civilize us we had no jails. Therefore we had no criminals. You can’t have criminals without a jail. We had no locks or keys, and so we had no thieves. If a man was so poor that he had no horse, tipi or blanket, someone gave him these things. We were to uncivilized to set much value on personal belongings. We wanted to have things only in order to give them away. We had no money, and therefore a man’s worth couldn’t be measured by it. We had no written law, no attorneys or politicians, therefore we couldn’t cheat. We really were in a bad way before the white men came, and I don’t know how we managed to get along without these basic things which, we are told, are absolutely necessary to make a civilized society.” CHARLIE.

well. . . . there's been theft and jealousy and murder and
everything bad we have nowdays since man has existed.
we just didn't have the capability to view it and know about
it worldwide until recently.

to say that early man lived in total harmony with everything
is hooey. they starved and died of disease and injury. ( minor
disease and injury.)
tribal members were shunned and tossed out of their groups
for different infractions, and the nomadic tribes moved around
with game and plant availability and when their campgrounds
got too stinky and fouled up with human waste and animal
carcasses and trash.
humans have spent hundreds of years devising ways to deal
with refuse and crime and social problems, but for some reason
we're reverting to where we throw down trash wherever it's
convenient instead of designated disposal areas where it can
be dealt with in an approved sanitary manner, and more and
more people (in this area anyway) are shunning long established
methods of personal hygiene in favor of little or none. many
are refusing to immunize their kids, so diseases that were considered
conquered are making a comeback.
and so on, and so on. . . . .

Yeah, and they were always at war with their neighbors.
It's true that injuns were not always the best of folks, some of the indians of the northeast were cannibals.
They enjoyed stewing up a white baby or two after raiding a white settlement. :)
My next oldest brother in Coos Bay Or. was once married to an indian and that was the craziest woman I ever saw.

there's yoyo's and pinheads in every social group in the world.
i've found angels and a-holes every place i've ever been.
there's not any place in the world you can escape bad things,
it's just that some folks deal with it in a proactive manner
and it gets handled instead of all the hand wringing and such
you see these days.
