Force is fast.

NHRA Top Fuel driver Brittany Force set a new series speed record of 338.17 mph on her way to victory at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway event. The run came during Friday’s qualifying session when she crossed the line in 3.659 seconds.

Force went on to set a track elapsed time record of 3.652 seconds at 334.73 mph as she beat season points leader Steve Torrence in the final on Sunday for her second win of the year and tenth of her career.

The victory moved Force into second place in the season standings where she is in championship contention heading into the finale at Pomona, Calif. in two weeks.

amazing thing to me is I used to go to union grove drag track back in the early 70s. When the funny cars or top fuel guys would lauch you could feel the ground shake and the air even pounded on your chest in the stands. That was with 2-3000 hp. Today the same cars are putting down 10000 hp. over 3 times as much. Racers get dethatched retinas from g forces. Ive been in cars that will do 0-60 in around 3 seconds and quarter miles in the 9s and 10s. If you ever been in something like that you know that it will get your attention! Now to be in something that goes 0-300 in about the same time is just flat amazing. First thing they would have to put in my car is a charmin dispenser!

WOW!!!!
But, I want to see them use a catapult like a jet fighter.  The dragster might break 400mph.

actually a top fuel dragster pulls 5 g's on launch and a carrier catapult fighter jet launch is 4 g. Now eventually the fighter would no doubt over take it but I doubt it would on the short carrier deck. Guess we will never really know because you sure cant run a top fuel car on a carrier unless the driver wanted to get very wet and very dead and its pretty hard to find a steam catapult on land with a prepped drag track right along side of it. Bottom line is either would suck the wind out of your lungs. I saw it once said that you could take a modified corvette putting a 1000 hp to the ground and give it a one mile rolling head start and when it crossed the starting line at over 200 mph trip the  starting lights for the top fuel car and a top fuel car would still out run it to the end of a 1/4 mile track. That's mind boggling.

I watch drag races quite often, with funny cars being my favorite.   When they blow an engine it's a spectacular sight.

ya the top fuel guys get the most attention but funny car drivers are the real men. Same powerplant in a short wheel base car. Much harder to drive. pro stock used to actually be my favorite. Back when they actually shifted them.

I always wanted to get there but never did when the original owner, who put on some real unique shows, still had it.Its odd style was known enough that Autoweek once had an article on the track and owner.  :(
