Ruger 45colt 3.75" Barrel Help
« on: February 15, 2014, 01:28:09 PM »
Can someone help me ID this ruger?
Will this handle ruger only loads?
What's this worth?
Looking to purchase this, like the short barrel for packing around the back country. Is it factory 3.75?

If it says ruger new vaquero above the trigger guard it is the small frame gun capable of pressures up to 23000 psi if not it is the large frame that will take Blackhawk loads
Other than that it is 3.75inch worth what ever you can get out of it from either the suspecting or unsuspecting buyer.

I believe that to be a "New Vaquero" which needs to be loaded to about the level of pressure that the Colt model P will take.  Don't use any Buffalo Bore ammo in that single action!

The new vaquero will use 23000 psi loads.  The same gun has been supplied with a 45 auto cylinder that plus p loads go up to 23000 psi.
Most know that by now and don't question it.

I have the 45ACP New Model Birdshead and it is a splendid packer in the Mernickle PS-6SA high ride holster.
The NM will take the factory standard loads, that is not to be confused with the specialty manufactured ammo or hot handloads. Still, a factory spec'ed 45Colts load is as formidable as it always has been.

So true but so will the full size Blachawk plus more.
So will the New Vaquero BUT NOT AS MUCH "plus more" as the large framed Vaquero will that is on the large Blackhawk frame size.
The LARGE frame Vaquero up to the low 30000 cup levels
The SMALL frame New Vaquero the low 20000ish psi levels
Std. speced 45 Colt is 14000 psi as set forth by SAAMI.

It sure will pack easier than my old 7.5". I mostly shoot 44Spl equiv. loads in 44Mag cases.
Have fun!

I have a SS SBH and I love it.  Same barrel length.  It will shoot if you can.

ive got lots of sixguns both factory and custom but the gun I carry most in the woods is my stainless 4 5/8s super. Its had a little custom work done but i did it all myself and just love that gun. Its accounted for quite a few deer, a couple  hogs a couple bear and a cow buffalo.

That pinned in front sight is such an advantage on those regarding changing front sight blades! Id go for more a Partridge type a bit higher too on my old blue S-BH but it is gonna take some work.
If it wasnt such a good piece Id consider trading it off for one like that pic.

Looks like a BFR with a skinny barrel.   ;D ;D 8)
Study after study has shown how dangerous distracted driving is yet people continue to talk on their cell phones while driving. Driving in the U.S. requires your full attention. Many states and countries have made it illegal to use a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle and the federal government should follow their lead. Banning the use of cell phones while driving would have the added benefit of making the no-texting law enforceable.

Your revolver appears to be an issue Ruger Vaquero Montado, built on the New Vaquero frame with the 3-3/4" bbl.

I've only come across them in stainless steel - but like yours much better.
