Stevens side lever "Crackshot"??

Anybody know anything much about this rifle?  It is a model 16 I believe.

It is a model 16.  I have one I was going to pick up before the weekend, but weather rolled in and I'll have to wait till Monday.  Yours has a better stock set by far.  I think the take down screw has been modified or replaced.  All the others I have seen have the one like in the photo.  Should be fun though.  Mine will sit next to my Remington No. 4.

Picked it up today, noticed the take down knob has a hole through it for more torque. Someone must have come up with a solution to a rod in your pocket.

Is it possible that at one time it had a metal ring thru that hole in the knob like mine?

It is possible.  There is very limited info for this model due to the fire in Chicopee.  I know it is personal :D but is your knob knurled.  if so I would tend to beleive it is something done at the factory. Mine has a ser# U5xx.  As for the limited info, some think the letters were lots and each lot started ser #'s over.  A lot of thoughts not a lot of hard info.  I asked before on the other post, does your load LR easy.  The gate doesn't seam to drop enough, I takes a little pressure to get a LR into the chamber.

Nope the knob itself is smooth with a hole for the d-ring.  It could be a variation from a different year. You don't think maybe it was lost and replaced with something else do you?  I don't believe this one has a "serial number" but it does have some numbers on the tang but no letters as far as I remember.  I will have to take another look this afternoon.

could be either one.  Maybe check to see if the end of the screw is rounded to fit into the barrel.  Mine looks very much made to fit into the barrel.  Mine has the serial number on the lower tang.  Letter in front of the screw hole numbers aft. The stock has the last coat of tru oil hardening.  Will send out pics when she is back together.  How about the loading question?
