GBO membership
« on: June 19, 2013, 01:50:19 AM »
10 years ago today I sighted up as a GBO member.  ;D overall it's been a fun ride, and I've enjoyed all my GBO friends.

Yes! When I retired I took stock of how the last 2 decades had sure gone fast.
I too, really enjoy the encouragement I find here.

Well, all in all there is a good bunch of guys & recently gals here at GBO. A few trolls and a few knuckle heads but like I said about the best outdoor forum around.

I mean my wife even agrivates me once in a while, but I still love her.  ;)

For me it's been about 16 years.

Does anyone remember when we used the free Bravenet Forums to get started? They only allowed 200 POSTS not threads but posts. When you reached that they began deleting the oldest posts even if they were the one that started a thread. It sure didn't take long to realize that wasn't working.

So Matt wrote some software and we began using it. That was the older cascading thread software which I think we used at least a couple years maybe longer. This is the second set of this type software we've used. I think the switch to this was in 2004 and everyone had to re-register as the two weren't compatible same as when we moved away from Matt's software. Just think of all the old posts lost from those days.

Our members make the site what it is with help from us having rules here. Without rules you have anarchy and that suits some fine but I like order in my life. We didn't set out to appeal to everyone just the best and we seem to have attracted the best here and a few that aren't quite the best.

I came over here in 1997 when that bravenet was running. There was just a handful of forums. Half the time I can't find a forum today with all of them on here. Boy this site has grown.
My registration says 2002 I think there was another reregistration later but the registration date didn't change like the first time.
