Warbling,wailing, or 21 century singing
« on: May 26, 2013, 03:24:55 PM »
I had to ask after seeing the national anthem
warbled again.
"ohwoah sayay can youwoo seheehee, buyeye
the-he dawn's hurahly lyeyite?
wuhuuuuuut so-hoe purounduley we-he hay-yaled
aa-hat thee-hee tuhwy-yilites lah-hast guh-leeeeming"

i feel the national anthem is to be sung in a respectful
and solemn manner.
not for some person to try to show their vocal "skills"
and range. it seems to me here lately this is "the "
thing to do on the audio and visual medias.

surely i'm not the only person that feels this way.

RANGER. Agreed Sir. Problem is that most of the so called singers think they have to improve it, and they seem to pick liberals with no respect for our flag, with a few exceptions. Mostly the grand ols song gets butchered by some moron who couldn't carry a tune in a 5 gal bucket. POWDERMAN.  ::) ::)

One of my pet peeves too.  Can't remember the last time I heard a "professional" do a good job of it.

I'm in total agreement. I hit the mute button as soon as the butchery starts.

Same here. The correlation I hear is that it's sung in the style of the music that they play in McDonalds so that people don't hang around the place. Some call it Gunk Music.

I'm with you all on this. The worst is professional sporting events where they think they need to get celebrities that absolutely butcher it, sometimes I think on purpose. A couple that comes to mind is Steven Tyler and Christina Aguilera who couldn't even get the words right let alone sing it the way its supposed to be sung. Sometimes I wonder if most of the audience really cares or even knows the difference. My guess is they don't, and if they did we wouldn't be seeing and hearing people butcher the National Anthem.
Go to a sporting event and look around at the crowd. You see people with there hats not removed, not facing the flag, or not holding there headdress or hand over their heart. It almost seems like the National Anthem is a disruption to them, keeping them from moving on to drinking beer and eating hot dogs.  Hey what can we expect when we voted for a commander-in-chief whose whole career has been a sneer at American exceptionalism, and greets everyone with a fist bump.

For the most part I agree that trying to stylize our National Anthem is at best a wasted effort, but what I do like is seeing some of the Athletes actually singing along .

I look at it more like it's the norm of our self centered, self important population. They are trying to make it theirs, by putting their own spin on it. Patriatism or honor have nothing to do with their preperation. Just self promotion and attention seeking.

My thumb can't find the Mute button fast enough on the occasion I hear it "sung" on TV.

At least you only got 1 version of your Anthem. I'm "blessed" with two versions that have significantly different words.

Only about 10% of the current vocalists can "carry a tune in a bucket"..... If it were not for sound mixing ni the studios most of them wouldn't have a music career.........
Just another worthless opinion!!

I'm with you! They try and lump the National Anthem into the entertainment part of the sporting event.
Give me a good military style marching band any day. Keep the entertainers for half time if you must have the Kid Rocks, Stevie Wonders, Kerry Underwoods or Faith Hill types at a sporting event. Better yet...............Don't have them at all. ;)

I hate to say it, but I think the late Tiny Tim would do a better job of singing the national anthem than most of those we hear today. Maybe he would have done a medley of National Anthem and Tiptoe Through The Tulips. eeee eeee
