i'm thinking he's in the northern
part of the area.
they missed most of the bad, but some areas got
high winds and large hail.
south and west of here got the real
kick in the teeth.
16 separate tornadoes altogether according to the
national weather service.
last time i got to listen to any news, the
fatality count was still at 6.
considering the look of some of the damage,
it's a miracle there weren't more killed.
there were 3 or 4 tornadoes to the north,
but they were closer to the oklahoma border
than this area. haven't seen any reports
of damage or casualties from that area.
terrible tragic mess altogether.

Dee can't decide if he is Texan or Okie----he is very close to the border.
It is a good 150 miles to the epicenter of these storms.
You got to remember that the Republic is almost a 1000 miles across and same from Brownsville to Amarillo.
We got counties bigger than many states.
But we don't brag.  ;)

I've have kin sprinkled all through the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Unless you were in the very specific areas they said all you got was high wind and rain.

Thanks for ask SHOOTALL. The house got hit by lightening on the west end. Fried Linda's new treadmill's motor, the TV in the living room, the DirecTV box, the DVD player, the door bell, and part of the house alarm system. A lot of high wind, and heavy lightening and rain, but other than that, we're fine.
My two boys live in Ft. Worth, and a daughter in Saginaw, so it got close to them but, jumped them.

Dee, If your house got hit like you say be sure and watch anything that has a compressor. They can take a hit and not screw up for three or four months ( frig, freezer,AC unit)

frig-a-dator-freezer was on the same circuit. I will most definitely keep that in mind.

We have waist lands, wilderness, and BLM areas bigger than most states. We always hear about
people from the east that go out hikeing and get lost. Then the helicopters have to go find them.
But William you guys sure do have the lakes some of them are larger than a lot of states.
I fished on Amstead once and there were places on that lake that were 450 feet deep!
And let one of those Texas storms roll in and that lake becomes as bad as a small sea.
The waves were swelling at over 20 feet tall it was all we could do to head into them so not to
capsize. Yup, that is a Texas size lake alright.
You guys over there do not do anything in miniature even your storms are Texas size.

When I was a kid dad would have me running around the house during a bad lightning storm unplugging anything it could fry that could be unplugged.
We kept a pressurized camping lantern in the house for light if the power went out for any reason.

Ya know, I had forgotten about that habit of unplugging everything. I'm gonna buy some circuit breakers to put between the plugins for appliances, and the wall plugs.

When I was a kid same thing, I was sent to unplug the only thing in the house plugged in, the refrigarator.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I do the same with every trip I make.  We had a Power surge one day and I lost all my office equipment ( was at the office obviously)  the electric Co. said  tuff s$#@.  I''ve seen a stove & frig.  blown clear across the room after a lightin strike.  Be careful using the phone also.  My Grandmother had a lady killed using the phone during a storm ( in the country many years ago).

I wouldn't trust those surge protector plug strips in a lightning storm.  We do have all of our electronic stuff plugged into them, but I know people who had computers, etc. destroyed even though they were using the best available breaker strips.  We very seldom have lightning, but when we do--if it is close--I unplug everything.

A friend of mine recently had a very expensive problem--along with many of his neighbors--when a tree limb fell and caused two wires to touch on a power line, which caused a high voltage surge.  All of the control units on his washer, dryer and other appliances were fried.  Some neighbors had heat pump units destroyed and many other systems.  The power company said they weren't responsible, but they have agreed to meet with the victims.

If it already hasn't been invented, it seems to me that there is a need for a surge breaker ahead of house power panels, or possibly ahead of transformers.  All of our power is underground, so it isn't as vulnerable.

We also have a snall substation out here.  When we have a violent rain (hum what is that) storm we will get only one leg of 115V and the 220 V compressors will just hum.

I agree.....surge suppressors are worthless.
