My gosh here it is the 16th of May, and we still got snow on the ground. Granted not as much as we had two weeks ago, but it's still there. Temps last week never got above freezing. Monday it stayed in the 20s all day, then it warmed up some on Tuesday and yesterday into the low 40s. Now they are calling for more snow tomorrow and Saturday.
Monday I drove up to the Yukon River. My Bear Baiting site is still snowed in. There is a five foot drift blocking the trail near the highway. I workeed my way around that drift and found others, two to four feet deep farther along the trail. I should have had my bait in last week, but it will be another two weeks at least, if it warms up.
We are three weeks late putting out our Beaver sets, the river is still froze. Ice along the shore is too rotten to try and walk on.
There for one week we were worried about flooding when the weather suddenly got warm. Temps jumped into the 60s. But then it dropped back down below freezing and stayed there for over a week. I left my traps out in a box, under a spruce tree. The box is still frozen down. I opened it and removed the traps, but my canoe is frozen down as well. None of the willows are budding out yet, they are three weeks late as well. Gosh, I'm tired of ice.
