Does anyone know if the quality of Anschutz's centerfire rifles is on par with that of their rimfires?  Do the centerfires use a rear-locking bolt?  If so, would that make much difference?  I'll never be able to afford one anyway, but I was just wondering.  I've always wanted a bolt action sporter in 222 Remington, but I've never taken the plunge.  I can't seem to make up my mind between the Remington 700 and CZ's nifty little 527 mini-Mauser.  I realize the 222 isn't the fastest or most accurate (at least not anymore) cartridge out there, but for some reason I find it more interesting than the run-of-the-mill 223, 22/250, etc.

I had one of the Anchutz 222 for a while.  In fact I still have an extra magazine for it.  They were very well made and extremely accurate.  They were a rear locking bolt but the 222 does not have enough pressure to make that a factor.  The Rem 788 has rear locking lugs and was one of the most accurate rifles Remington ever made.  Right now I am down to two 222's.  A Marlin 322(Sako L46) heavy barrel and a Savage 24V with a 222 barrel over a 20 ga barrel.  all the 222's I have had shot extremely well, they are habit forming.  Good luck in finding one you like.

.......I had a Anschutz centerfire for a short period of time....stilll have a 54rimfire.....there are other guns I would prefer for the centerfire rounds than the Anschutz in the actions currently......the Sako comes to mind and I have a few Remingtons that shoot with almost any non custom actions.....again this is my opinion and LIMITED exposure to the one centerfire Anschutz.......fit and finish was fine..just prefer a different action for 222 and similar shells....good luck and good shooting!!

All you get from the bigger 22s is 50yds to point on taeget.Your never out guned with a 222.
