A seafaring story that was related to me...
« on: February 21, 2004, 03:10:30 PM »
I can't vouch for it's complete accuracy, nor for the exact names..so I
am using fictional names..

Since the battleships have disappeared from the modern Navy, I understand the aircraft carriers now serve as flagship and carry the Admiral and his flag..
One foggy night the fleet was out on the Atlantic. The ships were moving slowly, cautiously, watches peering into the fog.
Soon a light was sighted ..dead ahead!!
The Captain got on emergency radio and spoke.."To the light dead ahead; this is Captain Akin of the aircraft carrier Enterprise; suggest you yield...
No return from the mysterious light...
Seeing what transpired, the Admiral, now somewhat irate, grabbed the mike and shouted..." This is Admiral Hazard B. Creighton of the aircraft carrier Enterprise...I insist you yield!".

At that point a calm voice came back over the speakers..."Aircraft carrier Enterprise; this is US coastguard, Ensign Jones, of the LIGHTHOUSE, Diamond Point; ...I STRONGLY recommend You yield!!".

I presume the haughty Admiral yielded..
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Ironglow,

Now that's funny.  I have heard that before and would not be surprised if it were true.
