remington 700 smooth bolt handle
« on: March 24, 2013, 04:36:27 PM »
I bought a 700 adl wood stock 25-06 like new , barrel date code is from 1987  , rifle has smooth bolt handle , its the only 700 I have ever seen like that.  Can anyone tell me why Remington did this ??
Would this rifle be worth more because of this ??    The bolt number matches the serial number.
          thanks for any info

The ADL is a chaeper version of the BDL as far as I can tell. (blind mag instead of a hinged floor plate, limited checkering if any on the stock)
Kind of like the Winchester ranger series, that were plain jane versions and a few things were done or not done to reduce costs.
Still a great rifle and you should expect Remington accuracy from the gun.

It is possible that it is a 700 Mohawk model which was made a few yrs. and was a less costly rifle than the ADL, I havent seen one in several yrs. but I believe the plastic butplate said Mohawk on it.  HTH  Jim

The Mohawks I have seen were on 600 actions with arwful looking stocks . I would rather have a smooth bolt as it is easier to work with the palm of your hand . I know of some who smooth a bolt for just that reason.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Ferryboatcaptain, I too had a 700 adl like yours with a smooth bolt.  Mine also had no sights.  I really liked that feature, but missed the Remington style bolt handle.  I was a very accurate rifle.  It was chambered in .308.  I ended up selling it to my wife's nephew.  Wish I had it back!
