New York State Sets Up Gun Snitch Line With $500 Award Posted by Jim Hoft on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, 12:34 PM

New York State is now offering $500 to people who snitch on gun owners.

NY State has established a toll-free tip line

– 1-855-GUNSNYS (1-855- 486-7697) to encourage residents to report illegal firearm possession. The tip line also allows for information to be submitted via text – individuals can text GUNTIP and their message to CRIMES (274637). The New York State Police staff the tip line 24 hours a day.

Upon receiving a call, troopers will solicit as much information as possible regarding a firearm tip then contact the appropriate police agency with the lead to initiate an investigation. If the information leads to an arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm, the “tipster” will be awarded $500. This is like something you’d read about in China or Cuba, not America.

A program aimed at rewarding people who blow the whistle on illegal gun owners has yet to show significant results, says three police agencies in the New York.
In February of 2012, 11 months before the passage of the NY SAFE Act, Governor Cuomo’s office announced a four pronged initiative to curb gun violence. One of the programs was a cash reward for citizens who lead police to the arrest and confiscation of illegal fire arms.

Known as the “Gun Tip Line”, New Yorkers can call a toll free hotline to alert police if they believe someone they know has an illegal gun. The call would be picked up by state police and local law enforcement would be notified if the tip seemed reliable.
If there was an arrest the tipster would receive as much as $500.

Sooooooooooooooo, I guess that if I just drive past some bars in the bad part of town and copy down the plate numbers from the nicest cars ,,I might get a hit eh?
Maybe they should have a snitch line for the public to get a reward when they spot a LEO spending over an hour on a lunch break!
Or how about a reward for turning in a pot head that is getting welfare or food stamps?
Or how about a reward for turning in law breakers that park in handicap zones?
Or how about a reward for....
AH !! heck with it!
I'd never turn any of these big time criminals in.
I grew up where there wasn't to many things that were lower than a snitch!
And I ain't going to lower myself to snitch status reward or no reward!
If you can't take care of things without being a snitch , then you ain't much of a man.

I would suggest getting a list of all the states politicians including their adresses and distributing it to all gun owners who then call in (under a false name) to report those politicians as having guns.............................LOL.... add police to that list too............

Be careful if you play with the SP phone line, I do not think they would have a sense of humor about it, you could get a knock on your door.
On the light side, if I turn in 3 or 4 of my friends I could buy an AR even at today's inflated price!!! That would be funny if didn't know people better, hold your hand on you butt.
Sounds like 30's Germany, I guess all Dictators think the same. There was some dope on the radio today, he said " the universal gun check will not take one gun from any American" what he neglected to see was that it would create a data base for confiscation in a few years.

This is not going as smoothly as the politicos envisioned. I watched a UTube vid. a while back showing a meeting of some fella's and the state police. On into the meeting an older guy kinda' lost it. He stood up, (wearing a marine viet vet hat), and told them to write the following down. He gave them his name, and address, told them he had no intention of registering his weapons. He further invited the state police to come on down. Said he was going home to load up and get ready for the party. The police captian was taken aback and speechless.

Some people will comply. Some will rat out their neighbors. It will NOT be an easy thing for the police to enforce this nontheless.

I think we should go the other way. Spend $150 on a disposable phone and minutes and turn in any one with a Cumo or Obama bumper sticker. How long will the liberals stand for a violation of their 4th amendments? I know they are more than happy to violate our rights but when the shoe is on the other foot they will not stand for it.
I would simply call in on any car with a sticker near the boarder and say I was in Wallmart and say a person in the sporting good section asking for ammo and High cap mags when getting fishing gear for my nephew and later saw them in the parking lot getting into a NY car.
I am sure that they will have something that is illegal in the car and then what does the police officer do?
I would also scrape any gun, or NRA stickers off my car so as not to be a target.

ABSOLUTELY.. just like that news paper that printed all the names and address's of legal gun owners.. flood them with anonymous calls and texts to invade everyone with an Obama bumper sticker.
