American Student Punished for Refusing to Recite Mexican Pledge  Posted in Top Stories | 0 comments American Student Punished for Refusing to Recite Mexican Pledge Another thing to thank LIBERALS for POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

  By Todd Starnes
A Texas high school student has filed a federal lawsuit against her school and her teachers after she was punished for refusing to salute and recite the Mexican pledge of allegiance.

The Thomas More Law Center filed the suit on behalf of Brenda Brinsdon alleging the McAllen Independent School District violated the 15-year-old girl’s constitutional rights when she was forced to recite the Mexican pledge and sing the Mexican national anthem.
Click here to read the lawsuit.

Brinsdon, who is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant and an American father, refused. She believed it was un-American to pledge a loyalty oath to another country.
Ironically, the school district has a policy that prohibits a school from compelling students to recite the American Pledge of Allegiance.
The district also has a written policy that excuses students from reciting text from the Declaration of Independence if the student “as determined by the district, has a conscientious objection to the recitation.”

“There is a sad trend in public schools across our nation to undermine American patriotism,” said Richard Thompson president of the Thomas More Law Center. “But it’s encouraging to see students like Brenda stand up for America despite pressure from school officials.”
The TMLC told Fox News the district ignored its own rules when Brinsdon refused to recite the pledge of a foreign country.

What’s most troubling is the different treatment for someone wanting to opt out of reciting the American Pledge of Allegiance compared to someone as a matter of conscience wants to opt out of reciting the Mexican pledge,” spokesman Erin Mersino told Fox News.
A spokesman for the McAllen Independent School District told Fox News they had not seen a copy of the lawsuit.

The recitation of the Mexican pledge and the singing of the Mexican national anthem was part of a 2011 Spanish class assignment at Achieve Early College High School.  The teacher, Reyna Santos, required all her students to participate in the lesson.
When Brinsdon refused to back down – she was punished, the lawsuit alleges. She was given an alternative assignment on the Independence of Mexico. The teacher gave her a failing grade – and then required the student to sit in class over a period of several days to listen to other students recite the Mexican flag.

The lawsuit states Brinsdon offered to recite the American pledge in Spanish but the teacher refused her request.
“It’s astonishing that this Texas school would deny Brenda her right of conscience and free speech not to pledge allegiance to a foreign country,” said Thompson. “Too many Americans – including those of Mexican descent – have suffered and died protecting our nation.”

And while she is fluent in Spanish and English and is proud of her Mexican heritage, Brinsdon is a “true-blooded American,” Mersino added.
Mersino said it was especially troubling to watch video of students in the class standing up, extending their arms straight out, palms down and reciting the pledge of a foreign country.
“It’s disturbing – it truly was troubling,” she said.

I don't think there's any defending the teacher, she's obviously wrong. But I'd also have to admit that this is not necessarily unusual. As an example, if you want to address the City Council in Laredo, you better know Spanish because that's the only language they'll listen to. Talk in plain English and they'll ask you to leave. The folks in the valley, as in Rio Grande Valley, are different. You might also want to know that a lot of the kids these folks are teaching are Mexican Nationals that walk across the border everyday at Texas taxpayer expense. The State would like to refuse them an education but the dimwits in DC says we have to fund the expense and give them a free education. While I'd love to blame this on Yomma, this has been going on for decades. This is just one incident that you've heard of, there's been thousands of them just like it and some worse. I hope this little girl wins her lawsuit and maybe restore some common sense back in the system.

Larry,  sadly even if she wins it will be overturned by a left leaning court of appeals legislating from the bench.

Sign of things to come guys . Around here the caucasians are saying that unless your highly needed
that you you can forget about finding a job.
A lot of this problem stems from these staffing agency's . Sure they have been around a long time
but in this depressed economy they are starting to flourish .
Some of them boast themselves as being able to supply anything from an evening escort , to a
welder or mechanic . Company's sign a contract with them so that company has no risk .

But the agency tells people it can let them go at any time after they sign on.
Offering lousy benefits and a pay scale that does not reflect a livable wage , they even lie to their
applicants to get them on board .
It's becoming the wave of the future as far as employment and the state labor boards do nothing
about this . It isn't in their budget is what they tell these people .
But in an amnesty state like this one you can just imagine who is flocking in here to get even these
jobs by the thousands .

If this continues it will end up effecting all of us no matter where you live .
Most of these agency's have their headquarters in Mass. What does that tell you ?
Romney was from there and was a huge supporter of this kind of thing .
Go look at Bartlett , they are Bartlett services , energy , escort , nuclear , housekeeping ,
construction , medical , electrical , heating and AC , grounds keeping , security , and their list goes
on but they are nothing but a crappy staffing agency that doesn't pay squat .

And treats their people like slave labor. They stress safety as if they care , but the truth is they don't
want to pay workers comp. and in fact will fight you in court if you claim it .
Mexican immigrants are getting hard hit by this , in fact they end up left out to dry while Bartlett
does what it can to get an injured Mexican worker deported .
Their attitude is there is a lot more where they came from . And look where they are centrally
located .

This happened TWO YEARS ago!  The poor girl has suffered for so long!

To the school district’s credit, Brinsdon wasn’t forced to participate: She was given an alternate assignment — an essay on the history of the Mexican revolution.

Here’s a thought: Why not just study the Mexican pledge of allegiance? Read it in a textbook, diagram its sentences, dissect its meaning. Certainly it makes sense to study the culture of other countries. But leave the out-loud recitation of any kind of loyalty oath for the U.S. pledge of allegiance (which, interestingly enough, is increasingly less recited in U.S. schools). You can bet plenty of students in non-English-speaking competitive countries (a) learn English, (b) study the political, economic and cultural systems of the United States and (c) never recite the U.S. pledge of allegiance in school.

If the point is to memorize and recite a passage in Spanish (it was a Spanish class, after all), recite a translation of the U.S. pledge. That’s what we did in my Spanish 3 class in high school and it stuck with me

Why study the Mexican pledge of allegiance at all? I mean, sure, study the connections between Mexican independence struggles and those in the US, or Russia's independence struggles, or Australia's, but requiring the kids to take an oath to another country is just wrong.

No it isn't wrong , not to those doing all this . It is the assimilation of a third world country into our
culture to ensure cheap labor .
That means us guys , its already happening in this state . No wage is worth having if it can't keep
up with inflation . People get to where they can't even afford the gas to get to work .
And then you have the lawyers .

My only reply to that is a question: What country are they trying to live in?

That's a good question CDQ when you consider they are both starting to look the same both north and
south . Romney ? Obama ? There is not a nickels worth of difference between them when it comes to
the ultimate goal . It was only about who would be in charge after the dust settles .

This kind of thing goes on all the time in California, where American students are subjugated by third world primitives.

It will take another war for American independence to cure all this and a Hell of a lot of people are going to die to liberate  the American people from the third world occupation that has been foisted upon us.

I would love to see a school try that with my kids/grandkids, I was born in Mexico and emigrated in the late 60's, became naturalized in '80, I consider myself and am an American, mexican studies have been a big to-do around here lately, nothing but anti-America teaching, if they love other countries (Mexico) so much they should try living there for a while and then we'll see what their opinions are afterwards.
I believe they would stop all that nonesense pretty quick.

The best post I have seen on this thread so far.!!!!!!!!!!!  Thank you!

I have no problem with people being proud of their motherland and culture. However, the Italians, Irish, French, Chinese, etc etc that came here FOR THE SAME REASONS did not require their language to be accepted, and I rarely see Italian flags flown at sporting events and Fourth of July parades.
