Hex 10" in 30 Carbine cal
« on: February 25, 2013, 05:24:50 AM »
I bought a 30 carbine Contender about 15 years ago at a pawn shop.  Sold the barrel.  Since then I have not seen or heard of a barrel in that caliber.  What would it be worth today?  It wablue s a hex 10" barrel.

The 10" Octagon 30 Carbine was introduced in the Type 2 barrel era, 1967-1972.  How popular it was and so how many they produced is anybodies guess.

Like with any TC barrel, supply and demand sets actual selling price.   Find a collector that needs one to fill a hole in their collection, maybe a shooter that really wants one to play with bad enough and the price might be higher.   Last 10" Octagon 30 Carbine I saw for sale about 3-4 years ago was "new in box" in the factory packaging (which ads value to a collector) and sold for under $200.

Who would probably have the most current information on availability and what they are selling for would be Ed Kirkpatrick (Ed's Contenders) or Ron Sable (RJ's Guns).  Both great people to deal with.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Just so all will know, Looks like RJ's has closed. I found this note on his web site:
"The shop is closed till further notice- Thank you for your patience and patronage".

There is one currently for sale on ebay.
So my guess is they are worth around $230 . (that is what they are asking)

Asking price doesn't really tell you what it's worth, only that sellers opinion of what it's worth. Selling price is a better indicator of market value. But even then it will vary due to need- want. Sometimes you just hit it right when you put something up for sale. And fine a buyer that really wants what you have. But even that doses not mean you can sell the next one for the same price.

I've noticed a trend on contender barrels though, the asking prices keep creeping up.  ;)
