Chiappa 1886 ??
« on: February 11, 2013, 05:45:19 PM »
Anyone have any experience with the Chiappa 1886 45-70 ?
Where are they made ?
Are they limited to Trapdoor loads ?
Do they group OK ?
Do they hold up well ?
Thanks

They are made in Italy by Army Sport, a very good rifle. Doug Turnbull is said to be building his fancy 1886 rifles on this platform. The short, nickel plated, plastic stocked rifles are available, but the cc hardened, octagon, wood rifles seem to have vanished. I shot one of those, beautiful rifle, nice wood, fitted with target sights. Someone let me shoot theirs at the range. I picked the rifle from the bench, i aimed, and i fired offhand. I broke 4 clays with 4 shots at 200 yards. I've been looking for one ever since.

200 yards ?
Guess they didn't get the memo that lever actions won't
shoot that far !!
Glad to hear from first hand experience.
Do u happen to remember what kind of target sights it had ?
Thanks
