10742 Posts, at Perhaps 5 Minutes Per Post Equals 37 Days Roughly? Hmmm

I seldom look at my stats, but did, and saw that I had made 10742 posts (now 10743). WOW! How did I get there? I averaged that I possibly spent around 5 minutes per post, not even considering the research that went into some, before I posted them. Worked out to about 37 DAYS!
Now I wonder what I accomplished with ANY of them, if anything at all. Disagreements? Yep! Contentious remarks by others, and myself? Yep! Frustration by myself, and others? Yep! Accomplishments by myself? Most likely none. Did I personally learn anything? I occasionally do. Did anyone learn anything from me? Most likely not.

I realize this is steering into personal territory, so feel free not to answer, but...
 
Didn't you drop internet a while back, for maybe 6-12 months?  I can't remember all the details but I sorta think GB or someone told me that you were simplifying your life.  Obviously you've come back.  Could you share your thoughts on what you did differently when you weren't online?  What made you come back?

Yes, I did. What I did differently was I got more done around the house, spent more time with my wife, spent no time checking responses to my posts, more time writing gospel music, and had less contentiousness in my life.
I'm sure you would be skeptical, but I am considered very easy to get along with, unless your a neighbor that lets his pitbull run lose, then you most likely wouldn't like me. Other neighbors and friends come and asked how to do things, for help with problems, and even the preacher calls just o visit.
I came back accidentally, as I discovered I also spent more time on business without the Internet, so I got reconnected for business reasons, and short GBO visits worked back into what it was before.
There are some here that I really like, and some I have no use for. In my life around my home, the ones I have no use for stay away, as they are aware of it. Here, not so much. I don't have the patience with some, and occasionally my bluntness is misconstrued as hate, when I don't hate anyone. I don't like that.
My "simplifying" of my life was meant as gettin the t#5ds out of my punch bowl.

I would rather not think about the time spent here. It is better spent here than in front of the TV though.

What the hay---Why are you suprised?
look---you know as well as I do that this is a fun and inexpensive way of meeting and talking with folks.
Now you ARE opinionated and that is a good quality as far as I am concerned. The benefits of you is that you (generally---there are some areas we have butted heads) are honest. I can tell folks here that what your hear and read is honest Dan.
I would not have it any other way.
Dan may not be correct in everything he says but it is well thought out and though I, personally, may disagree, he makse good valid points.
I am proud to say that he and I get together when dee drives thru and it is a wild experience.
Dee is agood man and I call him a friend--he may call me something else on occasion.
All hail Dee.

I agree that it's a swell place to meet people & talk about our interests. The rub usually comes about things that we feel strongly about. If a few of us would lighten up about our opinions to the point we would give room for others opinions then everything would work out well. Personally I don't have 10,000 opinions I guess. At least not that I post.

And then there are the trolls. And always will be. But if we met at a coffee shop they would eventually show up. But we would handle it differently in the public setting I think. All in all, I believe this site is about the best place I've found to talk about things that interest us. And at my age & health talk is about all I can do anymore.

Dee, question for you. What do you want to accomplish here? Are you here just to be one of the guys & have fun or something else in mind? I guess I never thought about this as being a mission or ministry or calling. For me it was just a diversion to enjoy the hobbies I love with like minded people.

And swampy if you quit trying to work so hard at getting responses and just be one of the guys, you'd like it better. You say things that are very controversial just to get attention. You have a lot of knowledge without doing that. I was amazed at you knowledge about black powder history. I really enjoyed learning some of those things. But you have stated how you feel about churches so why do you need to beat your drum about that daily? We all have heard it before. Tell me about flint lock fowlers and I'll talk with you. But I've already told you my thoughts on church so I'm not going to keep going there.

Every hit represents someone else's opinion or a question. Many times you don't give anyone else room to feel comfortable doing that. You get more hits with your costic one liners but a lot of others just ignore you.

The reason you get responses on religion & politics is because those are the subjects people feel strongly about. And are willing to fight for. You use the same approach you did with your M 700 line.

I've heard Lloyd say many times that you have more to offer than that, and I agree.

As far as paying for the forum, if we are a supporter then the rest of it is Bills problem.

 It's all centered around advertising. More hits = more advertisers that are willing to spend their dollars here.

You know Swampy you used the line about guns for a while that you were just trying to save folks money, now your trying to help pay forum costs. Boy your a helpful guy.  ;)

Well there have we got enough hits to pay for today's use?

No I traded for a new pu in 2010, and seldom drove it so I traded it and Linda's car for her a new SUV of her choice. I had already bought the bike.

Had a 93 dresser that I loved that looked similar and was black. I miss it. Enjoy it and keep posting, there are worse things to do out there.
