You did good, the 375 is one of the few good calibers in a Lever that just didn't make it.  You will enjoy it I'm sure.

The 375, while 16,000 of them were made, very few are for sale at any given time.  Even fewer are in really nice condition, and of those, you usually will pay better than $400.
You stole that one.
The cartridge, while it never was popular, is quite a capable cartridge.
It is good for just about anything on this continent out to 200 yards and beyond.  If you handload, you can do better than that too.
Congrats and let us know how you like it.
Also, check out the Marlin forums that GB set up for us.
That is where eventually, you will find a boatload of information regarding anything Marlin.

I think you are going to be happy with it.  I got a similiar deal on one last month.  Took it out to sight in with some handloads.  38 gr of AA 1680 with a Hornady 220gr bullet.  Shot a 3 shot cloverleaf.  2 overlapted and one 1/4 inch out.  AA claims 2372 fps.  Very powerful and accurate in a light weight gun.

I just appraised a collection that included a .375 Marlin.  If someone is interested PM me.  I told owner $375 to $400.  The rifle is 95% due to sling swivel and light scratches. Nicely grained wood thou..........OTTO

You got a bargain!

Just got back from shooting my Marlin 375 at the range.  Only had 9 of its preferred load (220g Hornady).  The scope was off to the left, and I wasted the first few shots at the 200 yard gong, then a couple more at a 200-yard target.  Last three shots were at 100 yard target.  Adjusted the scope after the first of these, and the last two were touching, just where they should be.  On other days I have put a 3-shot goup into less than 3" and a 2-shot goup into less than 2" at 200 yards with the Hornady 220g - both times with iron sights.  These guns will shoot well with the right load!

Also had a bunch of 200g Sierra bullets.  These have never shot as well, but I was ringing the gong with them at 200 yards.

Check out Accurate's load data for AA1680.

Here's the recipe for my preferred load:

WW Brass @ 2.010"
Rem 9-1/2 primer
Hornady 220g
COL 2.505"  (crimp in cannelure)
39.0g AA1680 (1g OVER MAX -- CAUTION!!!)
2230fps (5 shots)
3.4fps Standard Deviation
8fps Extreme Spread

That same load was a bit warmer today, running 2269fps Average (9 shots), 12.6fps Standard Deviation, 40fps Extreme Spread.

Got an antelope last fall at 162 yards, and the Hornady 220 exited the far side.  Haven't tried it on anything larger, but it would make a great deer gun and I have hunted elk with it as well (albeit unsuccessfully).

Congrats on your purchase - there were a bunch of people at Marlin Talk that wanted one but couldn't find one.  I'm sure they are all green with envy over the price!

I, too, am a huge fan of the 375.  I finally aquired on a couple of months ago.
Coyote - I need to get some AA powder, but in the meantime...have you chronograghed any RL-7 loads or Hogdon powder loads?  I've only loaded 220gr HDY's with RL-7.  38gr was only producing 2080fps.  This is from a 20" barrel.

Duckbill -

I have run up to 35.0g H4198 and 2130fps, but prefer AA1680 for two reasons - higher velocity and at significantly lower pressures (about 5,000CUP lower according to the load data).

In fact, the lower pressures have me working on a project - my Marlin 375 accepts .38-55 brass perfectly well. I had heard that many Marlins had chambers that would do this, so I acquired a .38-55 case from a friend, ran it through my .375Win dies and built a dummy load.  Tilting the muzzle down and opening the action, I dropped the dummy in and it chambered completely under only the force of gravity.  The .38-55 cases give me enough extra room for another couple grains of powder, something I ran out of with the .375 cases and AA1680.  This is strictly a fun project, as I already have a lifetime supply of .375Win cases on hand, but I figure with AA1680 I have an additional 7,600CUP to work with before I hit the SAAMI maximums.
