building an AR 15 for grandson

Wel,l I must be smarter then I thought.  I bought a stripped reciever and 5 30 round mags months ago.  I am building the weapon for my Grandsons birthday in Aug.  I got the lower parts from DD (daniel defense).  It will be in 5.56.  BTW I have never fooled with an AR, only shot 1 once.  When in the Navy in early 70's I trained on the M-14. 
So...which upper is in the middle of great or good.  I want him to have a 9" twist and a flat top. 
I do reload .223 for my Song Dog remover in 9" twist (Remington VTR).  AR's I am ill inform. 
Thoughts please for the upper? 
P.S. I bought this summer I bought 10 30 mags for him.  $13.00 a shot.

Need to find some 10 and 20 round mags. You will find the 30s are too long for bench rests.

You will find just like lowers they are all just about the same ... The olnly diference you will see that is major is that they come from different forgeries and that is the difference ...The best forgeries I have found with the tightest tolerances is Key hole forgerie (such as daniel defense and Yankee Hill)... So stay with a these in my opinion...

I started to order some stuff from them until I read some reviews on them ...they don't look especially reliable....Just my opinion based on reviews I have read. No personal experience w/them

I have one of their 20" stainless steel barrels and it is a tack driver.Of the 7 or 8 I have built I have only had one issue with an upper being too sight and the bolt not working correctly.  Don't remember the manufacturer of the upper or even if it was listed.

I know what you mean. With this AR craze all of them have become unrealiable. They just can't keep up with demand. I've had an order in with JT for I don't know how long now? Delton has been 2 months. I figured I would get an order in to get in line since it's going to be awhile. I ordered just a barrel from model 1 last month and it came that week. If it was a complete upper I would assume it would have been like the other two places. Most of the time they all run out of bolt carrier groups.
