point to ponder 44 mag vs 45 Colt....?

OK, too much caffiene this morning but I'll post this: Would the 44 Rem Mag have sold as well if they had named it the .43 Magnum?
I'm looking for a Ruger HUNTER in .45 Colt. Too many good reviews. I've owned/shot/reloaded for a half dozen 44 mags, all Rugers and a Contender or two.
.43 is a more accurate name for the 44, [.429"] but I bet Dirty Harry wouldn't have used a '43 Mag'...HA!
Anyone seen a Hunter in 45 for less than a thousand? Guess it's time to shop the local shops and hope I find one that hasn't turned to gold...yet.

hum , then the 38 spl. would be a 35 spl.
naw on the 45 hunter , had one in 44mag. nice gun but found I liked the Redhawk in 45 Colt better .

Some numbers just sound right...  Take a look on GB, I see a few now and then.  If you reload, then I think the 45c is a good choice.  I had a Hunter model in 44 mag, with a 2x scope I never should have sold, but then I say that about all the guns I have sold....

Considering marketing being what it is and the 'nominal' caliber designations they have used I bet they would have called the 44 the 45Mag if the 45 slot hadnt already been taken.

Well it was the 44magnum because it was an enhanced 44 special, which was special becasue it was a bit more special than the 44 S&W or the 44 Russian.. 8) ;D

and the 41 Colt and 38-40 often shared the same bbl dia  ::)  guess folks didn't demand perfect in the old days  ;D

Well back when the .45 Colt Hunter first came out, I paid $489 plus shipping.  Guess it's turned out to be a good investment  ;D for me.

The only problem I have had with mine was I didn't really reef down on the scope mount screws, the first shot with Ruger Only loads and to catch the scope and put it back on.  Lesson learned.  First time I had tried a scope on a handgun.

If you can find one they are a great gun, throats may be tight on the early ones, mine were.

Mine is the standard hunter grip frame and not the Bisley
