My Favorite Gun Store Open on Sunday. Hmmmmmm
« on: January 06, 2013, 04:25:11 PM »
I was comin back from Lowes today and noticed a small gun store, (my favorite) open today. I don't mess with guns much anymore, but I do occasionally stop in and visit. I went in  Today, and found the store full of customers, and the AR15 rack almost empty. I asked one of the clerks I know what the deal was. He said they were sellin fast. I asked what they were bringin, and he said $1600.00+ for good clean used ones, and more for new, and $800.00 for a case of 223 ammo. 30 round mags. (mill spec) are $50.00 each. WOW! I may cash in! I saw this once before with Clinton. Everyone thought it was the end of the world then like they do now, and like now these guns and accessories went thru the roof.
I can get a really nice bolt gun, and have a lot of cash left over. I'm doin some serious thinkin. If I do, after the panic dies down, the prices will go back down, and I can get another one.

If it does die down. Problem in my thoughts would be if (and they probably will) they push through some kind of ban will you ever be able to replace it? If it were me and even if you wanted to turn a profit Id consider waiting a bit longer. there going higher every day and if they end up banning the production of more its going to be worth its weight in gold. Heck we were inventorying all my guns to make a list to burn to disk and i got figuring at these inflated prices i probably have enough magazines for rifes and handguns to sell and make enough to get a new truck. But again what good is a gun 10 years from now when you cant find a mag for it.

Your right Lloyd. What if? But on the other hand what IF, they totally ban the rifle. Then what good would it do to even own the rifle. You own it, your a criminal, you sell it, your a criminal. We have a lot of liberals on this website that own the same rifle, but I don't think they realize it means them also. We are livin in a world that is changin so fast it's hard to keep up. At my age I don't see myself fighting house to house, and runnin up and down alleys ect, with this rifle.
These younger liberals are more about stirrin the pot with us, and their not gonna do anything if the all out ban comes, and their certainly not gonna say no. I have family members that would hand'em over if they were askin for the family shotgun or 22.
Now there is a limit that I have, on what I will take, and not take, but it ain't about a certain weapon, and it never was. If you inventory my guns, it will take longer to find a piece of paper to write it on than do the actual inventory. I sold everything I didn't use, and don't miss them. I have never been a collector but, was more of a trader. I have owned at one time just about everything I ever wanted to own, plus the Dept's I trained for, and with, furnished the exotics, and plenty of ammo to get the experience of the weapon.
This country has turned the corner and is headed for Europe. I read some of the posts here from some of the younger crowd, and don't even recognized them as Americans. They love an obviously corrupt government, hate the police, and mock God, and anyone whom believes in Him.
My thought process, and theirs is so far apart we'd have to yell to hear each other if we were in the same room. No, I most likely will watch a little while longer, but am not so sure it will settle back down like it did after Clinton left office. I have not forgotten that it was GW Bush that offered to sign the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban into permanent law, and it was GW Bush that got on National TV three times and said: The muslem, hindu, buddist, and Christian ALL worship the same god. And he was supposed to be a "conservative Christian with Christian values? He had not a clue what he was talkin about, or he thought we all were stupid.

an outright ban will bring an immediate law suit against it in the Supreme Court. You can sell your AR before any verdict comes down.

btw, your fav gun shop is price gouging.

I dont argue with your logic a bit. Yup i could get caught holding a bunch of useless worthless stuff. I guess if the law comes down and they ban any more sale of them and ban passing them on to my kids ill just give them to them before it happens and let them deal with it and just keep one for myself. . If a guy has to turn them all in to be destroyed theres going to probably really be a need to own one. Because theres going to be fighting in your neighborhood. I guess if you want to turn a profit its a gamble. Kind of like going to the casino. You might end up doubling your money or more but then again prices are higher then ever right now. Only one that can make the decision to roll the dice or go home with your winnings is you.

sharron when everyone in the country is doing it i guess we cant call it price gouging anymore. Just the going rate. Supply and demand.

Actually SharonAnne, I think what is happening is everyone is scrambling tryin to fill orders. The price has gone up, because they are spending more time tryin to find ARs. Cabelas in Allen Tx. says they can't get Remington 700 tacticals because there aren't any available. Who knows. This happened during the Clinton gun bans also. This isn't new.

Lloyd it really is like rollin the dice, and is hard to make up ones mind.

Dee , the bolt gun sounds like a good idea add a suppressor and enjoy quiet shooting . There are many pro's and con's to the debate of selling an AR in theses times . And yes the prices are very inflated. Some suggest you won't be able to buy one if you need it . Two thoughts come to mind - during the American Civil War the Gray Ghost said other than the uniforms his men wore all other arms and supplies were taken from the north. And during WW2 the Fench resistance found ways to supply themselves with arms. If there is a real need there will be a way. Besides like the guy in the movie said if I need a rifle there will be plenty laying around on the ground  ;) .

Just got off the phone with some folks that know their stuff concerning the purpose of this thread. After weighin all the druthers, I most likely will not sell. The trade-off isn't worth the difference. My present rifle is as accurate as what I had in mind, and far more versatile.

Dee,
I though all you shot was that old Winchester 30-30 your dad gave you. You don't need that old AR. Thought you got rid of that years ago.

I still had one NIB, a bushmaster from before they were bought out. My son in law was all hot to get a AR so I sold it to him for pre inflation prices. And gave him a case of ammo & a box of 30rd mags for Christmas to feed it.

I'm happy with my marlin 30-30 & my 97 pump gun. This is a good time to sell any unwanted guns. I have sold several to friends & family at reasonable prices. I just don't need all I have anymore. And the wife won't know what to do with them.

Pastrop, I think I'm tryin to hold onto my youth. When I do shoot, it's the old Winchester. The other is I suppose, an echo of my past trade. I'm strugglin with it, and in the end I will probably sell it. My days of runnin thru alleys, rappelling off buildings, and runnin drug warrants, are over, but my mind wants the old trade guns, while my heart is no longer in it.

with as easy as it is to get drugs into this country, if the gun supply dries up the 'importers' will just buy AK47s in Africa for $25 or less and sell them here for over $1000. Guns will always be available. Just a matter of legal or not.

Legal or not is correct.

A couple of members of the sportsmans club I belong to go to Mexico for a bit of wingshooting every year. The owner of the ranch they stay at has a seemingly endless supply of 12 ga shells when the possesion limit is around 50. It's all about the $$$.

Regarding Canada; even though it is huge area wise, its' population is only equal to that of California. A Nation by law, a state by population.

Dee:  I wouldn't get rid of anything.  I think there are bad times comin' and those fools who don't recognize it won't even know what hit them.

I also think that if hobama tries to 'outlaw' anything beyond a re-enactment of the klinton gun ban, the black market (interesting concept with a half black president) in guns, ammo and gun parts - mags, will flourish incredibly.

Locally we have a gun show in Saratoga this coming weekend and I plan on going - don't know what to purchase as the dealers have all agreed not to display or sell the AR style rifle or 30 round mags and the like, but maybe some ammo will be there.  I have found though that my local dealer still gives me better prices on guns and ammo than I can ever find at shows here and there will be so much police oversight at this show, with 3 separate groups planning protests,,that it may not be a very happy time, although it may be absolutely mobbed with customers looking to purchase whatever they can find.

I'm still wondering if I should buy a newer AR style or just upgrade my AK with one of those Dog Leg Scope Rails from Texas Weapons systems.

Any of you guys ever read any of Jeff Coopers writings ? His scout rifle concept, he felt addressed what we are expecting better than AR rifles do. A scout rifle & a 1911 will cover it IMO.

I know guys that have huge vaults buried in their backyards. They plan to stand their ground. Well that didn't work out very well in Wayco. Others have way more than they can carry but still plan to Bug- out.  :P

Lets get real, at my age & health, without my meds I'd be dead within a month or two. I need my meds more than bullets.  ;)

I'm just saying, think about it.

pastorp, regarding meds. I am in the same boat. I need my pain meds. Without them all I could do is curl up in a ball and scream. The damage to my spine damn near killed me when you add in the MRSA infection. My partner was told the next 48hrs would tell if I would live or die. Then, with the infection keeping me a babbling idiot for almost 3 months that I would be a vegetable, then that I would never walk. Happily they were wrong on all counts.   The big BUT is, without major narcotics, the kind drs REALLY do not want to prescribe, I could not function. I have spinal cord stimulator to block some of the pain, Methadone for most of the rest, then Norco.

I would not die without my meds although I would wish I was. That is one reason I say that if they come for my AR I will fight. I don't have much otherwise. If I am arrested they will not keep up my meds . Better to go down fighting. For a good cause.

I went to a gun show on Friday. I was nuts to butts. Prices were reasonable... at the begining. In half an hour .223 was $1 a round, .308 was $2. New ARs were $2400 and good used were $1600. Auto pistols went fast. M1s and various bolt actions didn't move much.

A gent I've been dealing with for years loads ammo for a living. He was cleaned out of 30,000 rds in an hour. He said he can't keep up and finding powder is tough.

My neighbor is a deputy sherrif and their department can't find ammo. Some are using personal stashes for duty!

Pastorp, the Scout Rifle concept is great. I have a Remington 600 in .308 that fits the concept perfectly. A Scout Rifle and a 1911 would be fine, if you were in a rural area and were able to relocate quickly. In an urban area I would like, and have, an AR15. All the military of the world left bolt actions behind in favor of auto loaders for a reason. Auto loaders beat bolt actions when you can see the face of your opponent. As built up as my home area is, I cannot see farther than I can identify a person by looking at their face.

I would have to agree SharonAnne. My ancestors, weren't all that fond of ya'll's muzzle loaders, as bows & arrows loaded faster. But man, when ya'll came up with the lever action, we upgraded! Same concept.

A side note on ole Jeffery. He might of liked the 1911, but he was pushin the failed BREN 10. He called the AR in 5.56 a "poodle shooter". Jeff had a hard time transitioning into the present. I carried the 1911 for many years, but there are pistols out there that are better. Jeff was entertaining, but I never bought all his propaganda.

although I am a 'paleface' my ancestors had nothing to do with the plight of the Native American. My ancestors were Irish potato farmers who arrived in Canada as indentured servants. Basically slaves who could buy their freedom, after many years working for the Lord of the Manor.
