338 Marlin
« on: January 05, 2013, 12:21:31 AM »
A local ad for a Stainless 338 Marlin got me looking at this.
It doesn't look like a cartridge that belongs in a tube magazine.
I did a Ctrl-F back 25 pages here without finding any discussion.

Anybody have experience with it?

Yes, it belongs in a lever, that is why it was developed.  The tip is soft enough it will not set off the next cartridge in the tubular mag.  It is one great lever cartridge, if I could only have one lever action, my 338 MXLR would be THE one out of the 34 lever rifles I own that would stay.  DP

Are they all stainless?
This one is.
+ Nikon 3-9
+20 rounds ammo
+20 empties, the only ones that had been fired through it.
$600.00
...am I bragging?

Don't know if your bragging, but you got a good deal on the 338 MXLR you just purchased.  Depending on the model, the Nikon that would have cost $175-$380 in our shop, ammo 33.99.  The MXLR is the stainless and retailed for over $700, the MX is the shorter blued version and was under $600 new.  You can find a lot of information over on the web site, www.marlinowners.com for your new purchase.  DP
