Lets see your loading bench
« on: December 31, 2012, 04:52:47 PM »
Hello gentlemen. I'm just getting started reloading, and trying to decide how to set up my bench. I've googled till I'm numb in the rearend. I have a few good ideas, but would like to see how some of you more experenced bullet stuffers do it. You know, the results of trial and error!!!

Thanks, and Happy New Year

2' x 4' on a refurbed steel frame computer desk.
The press is changed out to an RCBS JR3 now and ad another Redding powder drop under the Uniflow. Add another small table to the left for manuals and such, a bookshelf to the left for bullet and case stock. Add 3-4 more boxes of die sets and alot more clutter. Powder is kept in another room with only one at the bench at loading time.

There was a huge thread a few years back showing loading rooms and buildings that guy's have,,

p.s. Man, I look at that phot now as humble beginings, there's a BUNCH more stuff on there now, but it still works just fine,, I did use some long deck screws and proper bracing to hold that thing to the wall studs so I can do some cranking on the press with the 308/ 06 class cases and keep the table steady.

I'd like to see my loading bench but I'd have to clean it off first. It's really a shame how i've let it get. I didn't load or shoot much for a while but I would still buy things and usually walk in and put it on the bench and leave it there.

I'm 'bout bad as Bruce.  I can't see my bench either.  Took one step tonight and fixed the fluorescent light fixture above it.  Now to shovel off and stow the crud so I can rebuild my ammo supply while we have mixed rain and snow for the next week. Still have piles of junk left over frm moose hunting and other projects.  Happy New Year.

Sorry I don't have any pictures and I reload for five calibers so I am kind of a small operation. Anyway, I converted a used L-Shaped computer desk. I reinforced it some, has worked well so far with very little cost.

My bullet casting setup is on a bottom part of a tool box set thats sitting to the right.  I built this setup last year because I needed more room. The "strong mount" the presses are sitting on is made of 6in channel iron, 6 ft. long and 10 in high. I prefer standing while i'm reloading but a tall stool would work as well..As is typical of this hobby I'm already running out of room again... :)

Thank You, I can spend hours there and the time just flies. The ammo stand is a roll around and double sided. I can slide it out of the way or pull it out to get what i need. The shelves are labeled with caliber, so it is easy to find.

Well, I am a mechanical engineer.  lol  But it's not quite that clean at this moment.  I've also added some more tools to the hanging wall and a Lee perfect powder measure to the deck at the left of the press.  ;)  Maybe I'll shoot a now pic of it.

Sorry, none of mine can be seen they are too full of supplies and equipment. I have three two of which I built and one is or once was a desk. It is primarily for shotshell loading. I only have a small cleared space for actual loading work.

My primarily used bench has 4x4 legs and doubled 3/4" plywood for a top and also has shelves at the back and underneath. I'll bet bench and contents at well over a thousand pounds. Gotta whole lotta lead on it and under it.

I won't do pictures but will tell ya my benches are made of old solid oak doors that were salvaged from a VA hospital remodel.  They were 2 inches thick and solid oak.  I cut them 3 foot wide and 8 foot long for the tops.  The legs are 30 inches wide as is the lower shelf.  Everything is glued and lagged together.  Salvage solid doors are a cheap commodity and readily available and unbelievably strong and heavy.  Each bench is anchored to the concrete floor and directly to the wall so nothing will move them. For storage of readily used components and tools I use a number of steel auto parts storage cabinets like used to be used to store ignition parts and such.  They're all lockable and have good strong shelves.  Volume storage of powder and primers is elsewhere.
