« on: December 29, 2012, 03:29:21 PM »
Anyone have experience with D&T Custom? I followed a google search on "stubbing H&R rifles" to his posts at OKShooters... and then to his website.... found an interesting post, which I will link to below... check out Davids comments in post number five... in his experience.

Sounds like he's revved! That is some good shootin' too; takes more than a little practice to get that many tight groups.

That's what I thought too. Something changed recently because David White and Mike Bellm can be type and posted on the forum with it being censored anymore. :o All I'll say about it is that Bill and them didn't see eye to eye.

I read it  all, Hoyt, and first thought was,'now why ain't he on here?'. Seems to me to bust a dude for posting pics of his own gun is a little too tightly wound, but maybe, like many of us, he has changed for the better? I do hope so, anyway.
And I got a lust for a No.1 Int. too, in 30-06 or 7x57 would work for me, though I think .308 would be enough of a .30cal. cartridge in that short barrel I could always load an '06 down. Passed one up about 3-4yrs ago at a gunshow with a $650 tag. Bet he would have taken $600 cash......... :-\ .
Guess I'll go shoot some of my semi-custom H&Rs and distract myself.

I currently own two of his stubs (356 Win and 357 Max) and I had another one that was a 16" 357 Max. One thing I have noticed with the short Max and the 356 Win is that it appears as if he cuts the extractor slots a little too deep. I had to shim the bottom of both of them to catch the rim when loading the case. I'm told that's not always the norm, but I have seen it enough times that it has drawn me away from his stubs. Once the shims are in place it opens and catches just fine but doesn't have the normal opening space/angle as before. I had plans (before that was ended by him returning my items) to just have him perform rechambers, crowns, throats and bed forends. He prefers to only stub barrels .850" or larger for the H&R rifles. He says that's for two reasons, first for better accuracy from a heavier barrel and second so he has enough meat to drill into the bottom for attaching the forends. He just runs a screw all the way through the forend to screw into that hole rather than adding a forend attachment to the barrel. I tend to agree with him because drilling a single hole is less stressful for the barrel than welding a lug onto it.
Also of special note is his view on throating. He will not use a floating reamer. It is always chucked into a lathe perfectly in-line with the center of the bore. He has throated my 45LC and my mother's 357 Maxi. His throating alone increased accuracy by a considerable amount. He does the same when he rechambers a barrel.
He also builds double rifles using Ruger Red Label shotgun actions. He puts about 300 hours into building each one and has enough orders to last him for 10 more years. He stopped taking orders a while back and doesn't advertise them anymore.

Thanks, Dinny

Good question. That's what he wrote months ago regarding his double rifle orders. I have never seen a picture of his double rifles posted on his forum. I sometimes wonder why. ???

Any idea why a company would charge loyal customers to be added to a distro list for new products? I would think that any operating costs would be deductible and if a better advertising service was being used it would generate more business.

Thanks, Dinny

I also like that I can buy 2-3 Handis for the price of ONE T/C

I got in to T/C's for the simple fact that I can buy just about any barrel in any caliber that I want. Not too mention all of the different stock options.

With that being said, I still love my Handi's. :)

I have one of his guns he made up for me several years ago, a .45 ACP Handi with a SS barrel he made up for me to my specs. It is great gun and one I would be hard pressed to ever get rid of. He does excellent work and was a great guy to deal with, a real gentleman....<><.... :)

Ruger1B with a Loopy 2.5x8Vari-X III in 270Win.
I'd never do that. I have a Ruger1 in 30-06 that is more accurate than any of the  handi's I own. If I ever went out west, the Ruger1 would be the rifle I'd take. That being said; I still hunt with my 45-70 where shots are limited to under 150 yds..

NEVER, EVER post any pictures (even of your own guns) taken from the D&T Forum. You may face issues with trademark infringement. I was expelled from his services, forum and he no longer answers emails from me because I posted pictures of my guns, taken from his website, and posted them here on GBO.

With that being said, his work is top-notch.

Thanks, Dinny

I'll tell you this, while I do not know the details, such behavior is not what fits into my definition of a "Christian Attitude".

I had asked him about reaming my 35Rem H&R barrel out to his 444/357 chamber and the way he said no seemed a bit unnecessarily rude to me.  Also, for him to be so high in praise on the H&R barrels in to post linked and then state that it was partly because of the poor quality of the H&R barrels that he would not do the rechamber seems to be a tale with two sides.

Bottom line, I don't care how *&%# good you are there is no need for blatant arrogance.

Well, just to be clear, for me anybody that would 'dis' Dinny like that has already made themselves suspect. Not that Dinny is perfect  ;) , after all, there was only one perfect man, and Im not him either, but Dinny ain't a hard guy to get along with.

Not even close to perfect! My wife reminds me of that all the time. :o All I did by posting his pictures was bring credit for his work. I never posted a picture of anything that wasn't mine and that I wasn't proud to own. I agree about the trees. I can't even remember the number of people I recommended to him.

Thanks, Dinny

Is it a sin to have Ruger #1s and T/C Encores and G2s? I do have some H&R shotguns and a snubby Handi in 223, does that help? I have had two Handi 45-70s, got talked out of them by "friends". I also donated a Handi 223 to my brother in law so he could scare coyotes.
