When they ban guns
« on: December 20, 2012, 10:51:15 PM »
I've got a NIB colt navy tucked away for my house gun if they ever do ban cartridge guns.  :o pays to be prepared....

What's your plan?

My plan is to never post on a forum what my plan is or if I own any firearms. The fed cannot keep records of gun purchases but can keep a record of gun safe purchases. Posting on a forum that is readable by anyone allows them a record of your intentions and your firearms.

What firearms?... What are you all talking about?  I thought that this was a Hiking and Nature Forum.

I only signed up to save the spotted owl, the snail darter and the bog turtles from extinction.   ??? :)

I hate to tell you this, but I love roasted spotted owl, fried snail darters with hush puppies, and bog turtle soup.

If the day has come when we are afraid for the guvmint to know that we have guns, then we're long past the time when we need a change of government.

exactly..  we need not think that hussein will stop at so-called assault weapons.  any firearm that has a semi-auto action will be on the chopping block.

That is kind of what I was thinking when I read that.

However, whene they ban guns, compound and cross bow sales will go through the roof.  And you will see a whole new era of home defense knives and tactical baseball bats.
It's all a hot mess...........

Anyone remember the guy who had a squirt bottle filled with gasoline and a lighter who fired up his ex girlfriend as she was coming out of an elevator? There should be a law against that.....

The real problem is the hysteria people work themselves into. Simple reason tells us that any grown up can easily defeat a 6 year old even if the children are in a large group. The hysterics of guns are evil is simply silly. Many things in our lives can be used for good or evil.

I do not like the current president or the administration. The current political climate is to feed the hysterics of the silly ignorant masses. There will be some gun bans coming and there will be the attempt force citizens to register their firearms. Hysteria and ignorance unfortunately will win the day over reason and learning.

The media loves to feed hysterics.

In some countries where powder burners have already been banned, the citizenry found other ways to shoot, even big game, with airguns. As a result, we here in the US are free to buy and sell these bigbore airguns at will, no legislation in most states and you can UPS them from door to door. The average Korean production air rifles comes in .25, .357, .44 and .50 cal. They equal a modern 380acp in ftlbs more or less. They arn't firebreathers but can take up to a deer sized critter. They shoot best with roundballs or soft cast slugs and they can be refilled either with scuba tanks at 3000psi+ or their are handpumps that allow refilling. With some bullet molds and a handpump, you are off all radar and can legally, quietly and inexpensively shoot as much as you like. They make fine hunters too. This is the direction I went in, along with muzzleloader to insure I'll always have something to shoot throughout all coming firearm bans. No need to pull a centerfire out of the safe, air can partially fill its place for me.  J
R
.50 cal DragonSlayer(korean) in pic, gets 5 full power shots on a charge, shoots a .495. 180gr roundball at 700fps,  can be dialed down for lots more shots at slower velocities. There are now quite a few american companies making these rifles too.

Nice! I've read articles about hog hunting wit 45cal airguns. I used to hunt with a 177 and it was very effective on rabbits.

I still use a couple of air pistols and they are very good.

Those air guns you've got are a number two "must have" in the bugout bag, backpack or in any survival scenario. To me anyways. I can survive off tweety birds and squirrels far better than those seeking big game with aught sixes.  No sound signature either. I won't relinquish my powderguns but plan on shooting more and more air as the years go on.  Jeff

Any one of you guys in Florida ever check out a Jai Alai game? With a wicker basket, these guys can ACCURATELY hum a hardened rubber ball in excess of 200 MPH.

Now pair that with a bucket of golf balls and I foresee some cracked... no, shattered skulls.
Hey gentlemen, you do what you can. Compensate, adapt, overcome.

Anyone watch Myth Busters? The 22 foot spread between a gun and a knife wielder? Or the five unsuspecting armed dummies (all theoretical) in a small room caught by surprise by one highly motivated katana wielding expert.

While my father owned a handgun, his go to, home defense weapon was a baseball bat standing by his bed.  ;) I don't think he would even have though about getting out his revolver if trouble ever came to our house.
To my knowledge he never owned more rounds than it took to load it. Back in those days, you could buy amo by the piece. Every year he bought 5 new 32 s&w bullets. We would take his revolver out & shoot the bullets in the gun & reload it and all was good for another year. Life was sooo simple in those long ago days.  ;D

The jal alai idea, while a good one wouldn't work for me because of shoulder issues. But I like the sling shot suggestion. Worked for David against Goliath. And those big bore air guns are something. I like to watch the air rifle show on tv sometimes.

Unfortunately though, there's no Constitutional protection regarding owning airguns in the US. That makes legislation to regulate them much easier, via multiple angles. About 20 years ago, the Consumer Product Safety Commission was pushing to ban airguns in the US, arguing that they are ALL inherently unsafe.

Instead of thinking of ways to replace your firearms, why not think of ways to replace the government?  That's what our founders were about.

That's a great point, they ARN'T firearms and so have no constitutional protection. Never even thought of that. I guess so long as no one uses them in a high profile murder or robbery then they'll fly under the radar for a while..

Magooch I shoot airguns because I like them, they're quiet and cheap to shoot while equaling  centerfire pistol rounds in terms of energy. I'm not replacing powderguns I'm just adding to the safe with something unique. The government I can't do anything about. ;D. J
