I sold my standard contour .223 barrel and sent a frame up to H&R about two weeks ago for a Superlight barrel with scope base.  It came back yesterday with open sights....no base.  At first, I was miffed.  After sleeping on it, I decided it would be a fine rifle for my grandson in a year or two, so I decided to keep it.  I PMed Brian56 and he apologised for the error.  He was out with the flu and didn't handle my order.  He's sending me a scope base, so everything will be fine.  It's a very light and sweet Handi.  Thank you John (gendoc) for the stock, and Brian for the help.

Dinny, you're already my son in my heart.  I can't do better than that.  Like a proper father, I'll tell you to behave yourself and get your butt home to your wife and kids soon. ;)

I Love my 223 Superlite :-*  I downsized mine with a old style non M.C. syn stock and a low mounted smaller Burris Timberline 4.5-14 scope. Shoots nice off handed or bench ;)  Very compact.

Hey Pete! I have a standard contour .223 chopped to 18" and braked... I am picking up another .223 for my son... I was debating on whether I should buy him the Superlight, a standard contour, or get a heavy for my self and give him my standard contour... Whichever contour I get, it is going shorty with a brake... Whatcha think? I kinda lean toward heavier barrels myself... My .243's and .308's are heavies at 20" and 22" respectively. The symmetry of an 18" .223 heavy kinda appeals to me.

I know the military shoots them out of 16 inch barrels, so the chop should be fine, but why the brake on a .223?  With a good brake, you'd probably have to put an air rifle scope on it ::)

Why a brake? Two reasons... First, it protects the crown. Second, I love the look. Would you be able to caliper your Super Light for me at the 18" mark???

I just put the caliper on my wife's 223 superlight and it was .670 at 18"

Bueno, senor Spanky! The 1" brake in my shop will look truely boss on that superlight shorty... I think that I will try those Superlight frames first, as I am matching a couple barrels for swap-fit at the same time. Good day all! For interest sake... the standard barrels are 0.740" at 18" and the heavy barrels are 0.840" at 18".

There's no Superlight frame, it's just an SB2 frame, the only difference on the Superlight models is the barrel contour, 20" light contour.  ;)

Yes Tim, I know that... I was referring to those SB2 frames wearing superlight barrels... Of which there are four at my LGS and I will try those guns first for fit with these other two barrels... Then try the standard contour barreled guns and then the heavy barreled guns... Before choosing which .223 to purchase.

Maybe you knew, but hundreds of other readers here don't, your statement may give others the impression that Superlight frames are different which they aren't.

Pete,
Ya'll got any ice to chill your tea with?  Looks bad on the radar.

There's about 6 inches out there now and the radar says we're not even to the middle of it yet :o   Still coming down steady.

We got the big dump here in S-Cent WI, and I saw the big picture for you up dare in da UP.......hope you dont get what we have, 16-18" of wet heavy stick on the shovel plug the thrower stuff, and big wind tonight. As heavy as it is it cant blow/drift until it drys out, but then..........
Honestly, we've been here about 25yrs and this is probably the worst Iv'e seen; about 3hrs steady 9:30am to 12:30 to open up and get out the drive. My old 8HP dbl.stage could only take a bite of about 4" on the side and still pitch it and move.
Should have been smart, just hunker down by the stove and stay put 'till spring (oh darn, it ain't even officially winter yet..... :P ).

The weather's crazy right now... here in upstate NY we don't have a flake on the ground. A few days before CHRISTmas and we've still got green grass. :-\
