If you keep your Handi's in a gunsafe......
« on: November 30, 2012, 01:06:59 PM »
make sure you can open the door beyond 90deg.  When I opened my safe this morning I went to close it back up and the combination dial wouldn't turn. I fiddled with it a bit and ended up just closing the door but not locking it. I worried about it at work today and then called Liberty safes' tech line when I got home. The helpful lady on the phone told me to swing the door open beyond 90deg. and that resets the dial. It worked perfectly but I was worried at first that I may not be able to open the door that far due to the way I built my loading benches around the safe. I got lucky that I didn't have to tear my benches back out so I figured I'd post in case someone else with limited space has their safe placed where the door will not swing far enough.

Good to know. I have a Browning firesafe and have never had the problem. My biggest problem is being gone for so long that I forget the combo. :o

Thanks, Dinny

I have three safes, American Securities, Browning, Yukon Gold, and none of them require they open 90 deg.  My buddy has a Fort Knox and his does not require that either.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

With my cheapo Sentry i would have to move a bunch of junk to open 90 degrees.  During season my .30-30 usually just bounces around behind the seat of my truck.  I quess I need to be more security minded.

c1skout,
Is the combination on a key pad or a rotary dial? ear

Mine is a regular old rotary dial, I was worried about trusting an electronic keypad.
Sourdough, I don't always have to open the door the whole way, I usually only open it about 60-70deg. This is the first time I've had to do this in the few years I've had the safe and I'm usually opening it up at least a few times a week.

My cannon safe has an electronic key pad but I don't see any sensors on it for door position.

Right now there are only 2 Handi's in there but I'm shooting for 3 by spring...  I suppose that's the curse of having too big of a gun safe...

No such animal!  Usually the safe seems to "shrink" while sitting in my home, and is unable to accommodate the guns that just seem to congregate there.  Might have to start looking for a sibling for the safe soon. ;)

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

I bought a fixer-upper house this year and  I think I'll be down to one new gun a year for awhile...  At that rate there will still be plenty of space for the next 3 years.  In 4 years, all bets for extra space in the safe are off...
