Handi Rifle with 22 in barrel question
« on: November 29, 2012, 03:18:24 AM »
First, thanks again for all of your responses. I am learning a lot each day from all of you.  My question involves some handi rifles in 25.06 for sale with 22 in barrels. I would like to have the shorter barrel for tree stand hunting. My question is how much the 22 in barrel will affect the performance of the gun inside 150 yds? I shoot 90 grain hollowpoints and softtips normally. I currently have a youth .243 that my son uses but wants to move up to the 25.06 because I have one as well (tikka T3). Could I have your input on what effect the 22in barrel would have on performance? Thanks so much!

In short not enough difference worth wording about. ;)

Unless your shooting long distances where you might need to squeeze everything out of your chamberings.

It may be a moot point as far as buying a 22" 25-06, AFAIK H&R has never made a 22" 25-06, just 26", unless someone cut the barrel, it's never been a factory option.

And you need to remember that with no 'action' in the gun (the mechinism to reload a repeater) the Handi is 6" shorter than a bolt action rifle.  So a 26" barrel on a Handi only give you an overall length closer to what a 22" barrel would be on your Tika.  44 Man
