My VQ modified Ruger Mk.II 678GC. Trigger pull is now a very sweet and crisp 1lb 9oz.

The extention on the front of the sight is the polarizing filter. This comes with the UltraDot and I dont know how I every shot without one. It is adjustable and on a bright sunny day reduces the glare through the sight to zero. So you see the dot and target much, much clearer.

Mine is a MK III Hunter 678. I never realized I could be so accurate with a handgun, and the trigger on this one is sweet!

Hello
I have Just added Yet another K-22 to the ones I all ready have. This is a real tack driver given it has a bull barrel. This was also a tough model to find since they only made them a couple of years in the 17-5 Model before replacing them with the full Lug model of 17-6. I am Now on the hunt for a 17-6 Series in 4" barrel configuration as well. Hammerdown

I just picked up a Ruger target slab side in stainless.  It is the most accurate, sweet shooter I have ever owned orf shot.

I just love shooting my .22s!  I've got a Hi Standard Olympic, a Ruger Single Six, and a K-22.  The High Standard holds like it was glued and I ding 50yd steel with it all day.  The K-22 helps me hone my double action trigger squeeze on plinking expeditions, and the Ruger has accounted for many squirrels.

For sheer fun, you can't beat a .22

The first gun I grab to hunt small game with is my old K-22 or my T/C Contender 10" .22 Match Barrel w/ T/C 3x Dot Scope. If I'm headed to the indoor range to target shoot my Hi-Standard 104 Supermatic Trophy w/ 2 barrels or my Colt Officer Model Targets fit the bill. For back packing my S&W 63 w/ 4" works well. My latest addition is a Tactical Solutions 6" Fluted Barrel on my old Ruger Mark 1 with a Bushnell Trophy red dot shoots totally awesome. Just remember buy the best that you can afford & have fun.

Single-six, 5.5", SS with "ivory" grips.  She's a shooter, and looks darn nice, too!

My favorite is a toss-up between the one I'm shooting at the time or the one calling me to free it from the glass prison.  (Just did some drooling over the K22 pic's).  I realize this will put me into the class of those of no taste and discernment, but I haven't found one yet I didn't like.

Current favorite:  MKIII Hunter

In the running:  MKIII 22/45
                       22A
                       Single Six
P22 (may be last on the list, not as accurate as the others, just got it, but still fun to shoot).

Smith & Wesson Model 41 !

Ditto this!  I have owned some nice Hi-Standards over the years but ended up with a Smith 41. Smith .22
revolvers are nice too (if you are into revolvers), but a 41 is the ultimate. Period.

Hammer down, I was JUST thinking about my model 17 I sold back in 1988-1990, made/bought just a couple of years earlier, a 4" and it was a favorite, but spit some lead, and the sights would never hit adjust all the way to POI, when bottomed out....but it was a most fun gun, that I regret selling.  It had TH, TT, patridge front, grips I believe were as a model 19 SB.

I MISS that gun and have yet to see another, if I could get a NIB.........I had a 617 6 shot 4" but never was satisfied with balance, owned a 34/22 kit gun prior to the 17, grips too small,

oh and to the poster on the Model 41, preferred my ruger dog ear handled bolts over smith 41 slide for volume plinking, accuracy very similar between my mark 2's and 41, sold the 41, think about it some, but not like the 17.

The guns I have sold......and regretted......keep adding up!

It's been almost 20 years, that flew by, but I think the gun was hitting high and the sight was down all the way, I think I needed a taller front, or better just proper alignment barrel via frame.......either way, that gun is gone and one of my favorite plinkers then, (sweet trigger/super quick lock time/TIGHT/and just a nice piece-felt good in hand) lots of snakes, gar, turtles, even a rabbit that was sunning, why in heck OUT in the water in a brushtop!  I thought it was a nutria, back to me, shot it and reeled it in with a fishing rod and top water bait in the trunk of my car!  It was approx. 30 yds offshore, and I wonder if a predator was chasing it and it took the water for safety?  It was a Swamp Rabbit... I made a few long distance 'stunt' or lucky shots whatever on other game also, but when looking up in the Smith wesson book at the bookstore, I see that Heavy Barrel model was only made from 86-89 in 4" which is why I have NEVER seen one for sale since.  Back then I had an FFL and thought I could always replace what I sold......that was a mistake.....considering some of the nice things I let go along the way!

Well, Mark 2's, single six shortie-stainless.....beretta 70s, and astra constable, the latter just pocket plinkers that are lots of fun, the competition slab side and 5.5 bulls are the serious ones.  One other I regret, a bone stock Mark 2 stainless fixed sighted 4.75 that I filed the sight down ever slightly to get proper elevation, and the windage was perfect out of the box, it shot ok as was, but after I honed the trigger on that gun, it was a tack driver.  The narrower 1/10" blade up front gave me a finer point of aim than the 1/8" on the target models.  Family member wanted it, sold it, and it was stolen.  At least I know I can find another one like that if I want.

I think I may look for a 5.5 stainless mark 2 to shorten to 4.5, or do that with a slab sided stainless.  That with good sights and trigger may be about right, to fill the void the 4" heavy M17 I let go.

Beretta 70 is one fine little gun, I owned one when much younger, myself. And just  like you, should never of sold it now they're nowhere to be found at reasonable prices. They are one of a very few .22LR semi autos that I felt I could trust. And of course the 1968 GCA didn't do much to make them available.

Ironically mine ALSO does like that 17 smith, sight lowered, still hits high......but with good ammo it NEVER fails to fire/feed, bulk federal not perfect but good winchester or CCI it is 100%.......so handy a gun, and it and the astra constable are very accurate for 3.5" barrels.  You can get a DA beretta 87 I believe, but the 70 in 22 is tough to find.

BTW, can anyone tell me what the product code was for the Ruger 4" Stainless Target bull, standard steel grip model Mark II ?  It was a special run drilled/tapped with nice thumb rest grips.  KMK4b?  I cannot google it anywhwere....exlusive distributor item.  Can't believe those were not selling like hotcakes, and Ruger had to mess up a good thing.....I have zero interest in the Mark 3 with all the changes....nothing stays the same I guess.

I guess I will chop a 5.5 or slab side down to 4.25-4.75 to get my balance as I want or chance a Buckmark Micro stainless 4".....hear good and bad on the brownings.

I may be, I do know that it was a very limited production gun and although in the past I could find some links, now there is nothing to be found from my searches on that particular Ruger.

i have owned several of the pistols listed, but the one that shoots best for me is a high standard hd mil. with 6 in. barrel.
the sights are great and the trigger is crisp. it's the pistol that i'm most likely to hit with. you can find them on the used market for about the same price as one of the other choices (new). but they cant be beat!
find one that fits your hand, budget, and accuracy requirments. then shoot it alot! have fun.

This is my favorite rimfire at the moment.http://www.flickr.com/photos/79113855@N00/376674807/in/set-72157594512563929/
Itīs a Jäger Frontier 22lr and  itīs the the one with the brass gripframe.
If I could afford it, I would buy a Morini CM22 or a Feinwerkbau AW93 for competition.

I missed a H Std citation or olympic, had weights, flute barrel, etc. nice at a big gun show years ago, also missed a Colt match target woodsman 4.5" for $450!!!!!!!  I did not know then what I was looking at, in new condition in box.....traced seller but it was gone to a collector, to collect dust!  Not be shot.  Such a shame.

I DID own a Stainless new prodution high std victor, 4.5", but feeding was sometimes iffy, and I THINK it was a magazine problem, it was a 'variant' but perhaps not THE high std company producing, about 10 or so years ago.  Sold it, accurate though, also a Colt Cadet.

Well, I am not sure on parts breakage, likely seldom, and availability, but a High standard of yesteryear, and old colt's would be sweet.

The new hammerli trailside or whatever seems nice, but I think the S&W NON 41 models, new mfg seem cheap, and so perhaps the Neos beretta.  I could welcome a colt or high standard and would perhaps prefer a 4.5" for plinking, though a longer barrel would be great on paper/hunting.

I too acquired a Ruger 5.5 bull mk 2 first year in '81 or so, and fired BRICKS and BRICKS of ammo till the chamber loosed up some and cases sometimes split, Ruger reblued to better than new cheap, but said the barrel was 'in specs' and hey, w/scope, will do under inch at 25 yds,  that said, my slab sided 6 7/8 will cut a quarter with power points at 50 yds!  Not bad

Sold off a micro buckmark long ago, but thinking I may be missing it as a plinker, love the looks of the barrels on the new Mark 3's, but REFUSE to buy what Ruger did after Bill died.  I DETEST liability induced trigger locks, and all the garbage done on the mark 3's.

The mark 2 was an improvement, the 3, not my thing.  If they had only changed the barrel configurations, perhaps doing REAL quality trigger and sights, THAT would have justified a change, and perhaps a premium.  Will have to keep looking for certain models of Mark 2's and/or modify what I have.

At the SHOT show, Volquartsen when asked, hinted possible future mfg of a similar pistol to a Ruger mark 2.  If void of the model 3 changes, I will consider.  They do quality parts, so a gun should perform if they mfg one in time.

My favorite rimfire handgun? That would have to be my Ruger Mk1 5.5 bull barrel. It's one of the last Mk1's and was made in the early 80's. I made my own Mesquite grip panels to replace the black plastic ones. CCI MiniMags, Federal bulk pack, or Federal AutoMatch run through it like water through a funnel, but it chokes on nearly anything Remington flavored.
