thinking about trading my 243 Win barrel
« on: November 28, 2012, 05:59:13 AM »
I recently bought a 223/556 AR style rifle and now have handis in 243 and 270 configurations too. I am thinking about selling or trading the 243 barrel and trying to get either a 357 mag or 4570 barrel, both of which I already have the dies for. I never played around with the 243 barrel much so this one is almost new.

Do you think this is a viable plan? The main issue is if I can find a straight up trade or I will have to sell the 243 barrel and then purchase the 357 or 4570 either from someone here or the factory.

Give the trade a try, if no takers within a week, sell it. You will search long and high to find a much better Handi barrel than a 357 or 45-70. ;)

Thanks, Dinny

I personally don't think that your going to get a straight up trade.  The .357Mag barrels are hard to come by.  It took me a year to find one.  But it was worth the wait.

As far as the 45-70 barrels go, they occasionally appear for sale but are usually snapped up quickly.  I think you would be better off selling the .243 barrel, and then purchase one on this site, when it becomes available, or go the factory route.

If you want, post an ad in the WTT, and see what happens.  You never know, you might get lucky.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

Thanks I am going to give it a try on trading at least for a week, I am in no hurry. And I realize that those two calibers are in high demand around here too! Joe
