My 'new' vintage *Olcut* hunter
« on: November 27, 2012, 02:13:13 PM »
My 'new' knife; likely made pre-WWII by the tang stamp (but B. Levine says dont try to date stuff you dont know!). Its marked in three lines: *OLCUT*/ UNION  CUT. Co./ OLEAN N.Y. (of K-Bar fame) and by the stamp it is 'said' was used 1935-45 is how I 'guessed. I would also guess that few, if any, would have been made during the war, so effectively this is 1935-1942?
It is a very nice size; 9 3/16 OAL x a tad over 5" blade, light and well balanced (seems very nice carbon steel too). The handle is an oval cross section 'thistle top', black plastic with a nice checkered pattern (not heavily worn or chipped!, lucky me). I had an I-Net pic but it is no longer available  :( , but here is one with the same handle though it is a different blade pattern, mine is very much like the Marble's Ideal.

If anyone has any info, I AM interested.  ;D

Looks like nobody here is familiar with this model. Ive found precious little info online about it, maybe they arent too common given the somewhat limited pre-WWII availability?
If so, good for me, it is a nice using knife with good ergonomics and, IMHO, classy lines and history.
Now to go cut some venison sausage and XX sharp cheddar cheese........
