Go to www.hodgdon.com then type in your caliber in the reloading section.

What works for one shooter or his/her revolver may not work for another.  Sometimes it takes a little work to find the perfect load.  That's supposed to be fun of reloading, isn't it?   ???

When I rechambered my colt to a Cassull I just went with the first starting load with my preferred 296 powder and a 300g bullet. This load has proven most accurate for me.

As stated all guns, just like people are different. Some like Brussels sprouts some like turnips. I dont like either. ;)

good to know CW. thats what i've got is the 45 colt handi that i reamed to 454. Its aliitle harder finding info for the rifle. Thats the reason for asking. Reloading is fun , but can get expensive starting at the wrong end of things :)

For me the 454 was a "safe" 45 Colt. The benifit of the SR primer sparking the larger charge of hard to ignite ball powder is a good one!  I have long been conserns the hot colt loads with find there way I to a expensive colt model P.

I did not want top loads. My 45/70 does that and at lower pressures! Starting loads for the pistol 454 shoot great and reach my velocities I want to reach.

One bullet I will say avoid, 200g FTX at 454 velocities. Will blow up! The 225 FTX is made for the long colt BTW. I'm gonna try the 250g. This should work as its used in muzzle loaders and that's the same vel range. Also most bullets are not constructed for 454 velocities let alone rifle 454 velocities!

Yeah, those heavy jacketed bullets for the .454 can get costly too.
