Police: Mom abandons daughter in Sam's Club, says she 'doesn't want' her        by WHAS11  WHAS11.com Posted on November 21, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Updated yesterday at 9:09 AM       LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It is a story that has outraged a community.  A Jeffersontown mother is facing criminal charges after police say she abandoned her six-year-old child at a Sam’s Club store.

“It was the most heart wrenching thing we could think of because we were all standing there in disbelief. Is this really happening? Is she really trying to leave her child?” said witness Debbie Harbsmeier.

Police say Fengshan Huang was trying to do just that at a busy Sam's Club off Blankenbaker Parkway.
Mother and WHAS11 employee Debbie Harbsmeier witnessed the scene Tuesday night. She says the mother tried to leave the child in the back of the store.

“She was kind of pointing and gesturing and walking towards this woman. So to all of us in line clearly this woman was her mother. She was trying to go after her and the mother, with the cart, it was as if she had blinders on like she was a horse at Churchill,” Harbsmeier said.

Employees of Sam's Club took the child and tried to reunite the pair.

Witnesses say an employee came out of the Sam’s Club still holding the child.  They repeatedly tried to get the woman’s attention but she kept saying "I don’t want the child anymore."

Fengshan Huang also said, "take her, call 911." Huang is charged with wanton endangerment. Neighbors who did not want to reveal their identity say they are stunned.

“She was like your normal neighbor, had it all together, very nice lady. So who knows, you know, you never know,” said a neighbor.

Her six-year-old daughter is at the Home of the Innocents. Those with the Home of the Innocents provide emergency shelter for children who are abandoned, neglected or abused.

“Even though we deal with this issue on a fairly regular basis, consistent basis, at the Home you never get over the emotional impact that a defenseless child left alone. Our heart goes out to these kids,” Brown said.

Police say Huang also has a 13-year-old son who was not at Sam’s Club at the time of the incident. He is also at the Home of the Innocents.
Huang has been bailed out of jail.

She should be "fixed" so she can't have any more kids.

Don't think having her "fixed" is the answer. Take her somewhere that she can never find her way back and dump her a<< off.

If that was my mother, being abandoned at a Sams club would probably be doing me a big favor.

Children are abandoned too often. Quite a strange place to make the break though.

While being physically abandoned is shocking I think the psychological abandonment would be worse in the end.  Growing up in a home devoid of love or compassion, is cruelty no matter your definition.

I hope little is done to reunite these three. So many loving people without children in this world, surely some one can adopt these two and give them a chance at a fulfilling life.

I too say why could my Mom did that when I was small.  I could have grown up with out all the abuse.  So in actualality maybe the kid is better off than the Mom keeping her and abusing her.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I know several people who would have been happy to adopt such a kid, but the procedures and costs are so prohibitive that they all went to china or korea to adopt.

There's a lot of places you can abandon a child, but Sam's club?  :o
I think here locally you can drop them off at fire dept, police dept, and hospitals without recource.
What kind of a pyscho just leaves them at Sam's club...
Hopefully the kids will end up in a good home.

I guess I can understand a young mother having a baby and putting it up for adoption after birth. I sure don't understand how after having your child for 6 years one day you just decide you no longer want her. I myself could never put a child of mine up for adoption. This little girl will probably be mentally damaged from this I would think. She must be thinking it's her fault that mommy did not want her anymore. I feel very bad for her and hope she finds a loving family that can work through all this with her. Dale

Something is a bit off in the mothers head.
Or she is just an evil #%#$!
I'd say the most humane thing to do is just shoot the sick P.O.S.

Absolutely Dale, that is why I believe in the end the kid will benefit from this. If this were in any way "normal" just about any other scenario would have happened. Obviously mom ain't right, and in my opinion is damaged beyond repair. if this were not the case she would have chosen one of a thousand better ways to resolve this. I have nephew and niece who would give a limb to have a kid, they are by no means alone.

when the ecomony suffers, gets markedly worse,  parents and adult custodians of children ,beat or otherwise harm children.
ask anyone in child protective services, children are the first to suffer at the hands of a poor economy.
