Which would you buy?????

If you could buy either of these which would you buy? I'm going to buy one of the 3 just have not made my mind up yet.I love the encore platform, and I like the feel of the Savage, and have heard good things about the H&R.

I wont a slug gun to use on either sex hunting days and for draw hunts that are slugs only,

My encore is my go to gun. I mostly deer hunt with a muzzleloader barrel. I do break out the 25-06 barrel for late doe season. I would love to have a savage. But, they cost alot. I did order a new H & R ultra slug a few weeks ago in a 20 ga. I have one in a 12 and I think you can't beat it. The weight reduces the recoil and I don't think you can beat the accuracy.

Jake, I have shot the Ultra Slugger in 12 gauge and although it is accurate it is also a lot heavier than I care to tote around.  In my hands it feels like it has all the finesse and balance of a pickup truck drive shaft.  I would note though that a nephew has had one for years and loves it.

I had two Savage 210F slug rifles and jumped om one of the first 220s when they first came out.  It is 3/4 pound lighter than the 210F (12 gauge) and kicks a lot less.  I have been using the Federal/Barnes 5/8 ounce tipped Expander and they shoot into right at 1" at 100 yards all day long.  That load (P209XT1) has been discontinued and the new replacement has a copper slug with a lower BC (P209TC).  I haven't tried them yet since I still have some of the older style on hand.

With the old slug the rifle would hold about 2-1/2" groups at 200 yards off the bench.  I hope the newer load does as well.

Encores are not at all my field of expertise but from what I see slug barrels are pushing $400 (I could just not be using the best search phrases) and a Savage 220 can be had for $440.

For having the Accutrigger, three rounds if needed and the handling of a good bolt action rifle I would buy the Savage again tomorrow.

I own both the H&R 12 gauge slug gun and the Savage 220F.  They are both outstanding slug guns and are extremely accurate.  My h&r USH has a Nikon BDC 200 reticle scope and can shoot 6 inch groups out too 200 yards.  There are two big deciding factors to a slug gun are; one do want to be able to take multiple shots and what kind of scope do you want to put it?  If you are trying to be highly accurate beyond 100 yards and be able to shoot out to 150, 175 and 200 yards you need to buy a multiple reticule scope like the Nikon BDC.  This gives you four aim points which are 50, 100, 150 and 200 yards; plus it has a 5 inch eye relief.  The gun is only as good as your scope.  So I bought the H&R USH model (SB20-980) with the Nikon BDC scope together for about 475 dollars. 
However, if you want something that can take multiple shoots and is highly accurate out to 200 yards for a good price the Savage is the way to go.  I bought the Savage 220F and can put touching holes at 100 yards but I didn't buy the Nikon BDC scope for this one yet because of how expensive it was which was about 650 out the door.  I am planning on buying a better scope for in the future but I really love the ability to shoot accurately but be able to reload quickly.  I read in an artilce where a man shot a medal plate at 250 yards and he hit 12 consective times.  Also I heard that this gun can put 2 inch groups at 200 yards.  This is another great gun but it depends on how much you really want to spend.  I love my H&R and for less then 500 dollars you really can't beat the setup I have with my gun which enables me to be accurate out to 200 yards.  Also, once you get use to the reloading the H&R you can reload quickly.  The bottom line, is it all depends on what you want to spend.  If you can afford to spend about 750 dollars buying the Savage 220F with the Nikon BDC 200 Reticle scope and then go for it.  If you can't afford that then I would recommend buying the H&R with Nikon BDC scope for 475.

We'll I ordred the H&R 20 ga but they said they were having trouble getting one. So I went with a 20 ga encore barrel from a fellow on here had.I have not shot it yet but it sure feels good, not near as heavy as the H&R are.

I have the H&R 20 gauge in the youth model.  it's really nice in a tree stand.  The shorter stock works well with thick clothes in deer season.

The Ultra Slug Hunter is a heck of a slug rifle. I bought mine with Cinnamon laminated stock 8 years ago in 20ga. for $190 new. The Savage is Approx $450.  You do not need a BDC reticle to shoot 200 yards. I have done it many times. Crosshairs are good to 150 & a slight high hold is all thats needed. I shoot a Swift 2x7x40 that costed me $164. As far as follow ups, I bet I can do it just as fast if not faster then the bolt gun. Shells are right on the stock. I have had friends comment that they didnt think it was me shooting because the 2 or 3 shots were so close together.  Mike

I'm sure you will like the 20ga. and lighter recoil.
I nearly devloped an ulcer when shopping for a slug gun I could afford. The 220 savge was one of the new ones I looked at. Thankfully the one they laid on the counter for me to look at wasn't what I consider a real well made new gun. The but pad was falling off out of the box and the bolt hung up part way thru the throw. I passed on a 220 for those reasons.
Saw a ad for remington slugger shot guns on sale so I headed out to see them. I ended up with the slugger in 20 ga. and put a dusk to dawn 1.5 to 5 bushnell on it I had on a shelf. I feel I made the right choice for m

I have an ush in 20 youth and love it. Very accorate. Have a Bushnell diamond scope
