Forend thumb screws.

Somebody here, a regular contributer and all around great human being (is that enough suck up?) has posted about using a thumb screw for his forends.
 
I'm not in a big city and am having a tough time locating the right type screw.  Got any help for a guy?  Thanks.

Catshooter, your town CAN'T be smaller than Engadine, MI.  Our local hardware has them in their nut, screw, washer etc. assortment in the pullout small drawers.  If you can't find one, PM me and I'll get one for you.

I only have one on my Maxi.  I don't think I'd want one on a heavy recoiler.  It could come back and smack a finger.  It'd be fine on the .22s and pistol calibers.  I'm getting some for Cat, so if anyone else wants to try it, shoot me a PM.  If I recall correctly, they were about 2.79 plus tax.  I'll send them for cost plus postage.  The hardware will only have two or three in stock, but they will order and have them in a week.

I think you're right, one of these on something that had some good kick to it would smack your finger pretty good.  I'm going to use mine on my 30-30s so that should work.  Thanks again.

I made a run to the Hardware and picked up three for Cat.  The current retail is 2.75 each.  I was wrong about the ordering.  A salesman comes in once a month, checks stock and orders.  They can special order, but we pay shipping.  I think they can be ordered direct from Hillman.  Here's a link to the distributor and the item.  It's the male pictured on the right.:

Pete, I've got a youth model 20ga that I put sling studs on. I've never fired it so this thread got me to thinking.  being a 20ga, should I move that stud to the front of the forearm??

The quick release knob in the FAQs would be the one I'd prefer to use, it's much smaller and looks like it should be on a firearm.  ;) If ya want a plastic knob, the knob for the Choate Store-Arm would be the one to order, it fits close to the forend, doesn't stick out much at all.

Couple of good options there, thanks Tim.  I searched the FAQs but couldn't find anything.
